Hello everyone! I plan on applying to UTMB for Spring 2018 entry and can't find a post on it, so I decided to make one! I am taking my TEAS end of April. I already have a degree from the University of Houston in Health Communication and minor in Nutrition. I am finishing my last two prerequisites (A&P2, Microbiology) right now at a community college. Anyone else looking to apply? Deadline is coming up next month, so I thought it would be awesome to get a group thread going! Would love to hear from others applying!
Hello guys, I was wondering if I could get your opinion on something.Taking Micro rn, and honestly it's so fast paced that I think I might end the class with a 76/77 AKA a C.
Should I drop or just try to finish the to the best of my ability? I'd get a W if I dropped...
I don't want to drop because I paid for this, but at the same time my Science GPA is like barely a 3.0/3.1 that if I don't drop I'd have it remain the same/make it go lower...
Thanks
Finish to the best of your ability. If you get below an 80 you can retake it and they will take the higher grade. You can't undo a W which is more negatively looked upon.

I didn't know they thought that a W was more negatively looked upon! I mean it sounds like common sense, but I was so caught up on the fact that my GPA isn't as high as it could be already that I was willing to drop a class.
Thank you, @Jules81!

I am grandfathered under the 6 drop rule but I was told it is still unofficially considered by the school when they look at applicants. I was in the same boat as you last semester. I had a lower science GPA that I really would have liked to have and I took Micro during summer session two. I ended up finishing with a 79.49 and no I'm not exaggerating. It was moved to an 80 but I was much more willing to retake it rather than putting another W on my transcript. You may end up surprising yourself.

Could just be me but Micro was definitely a hard class to get an A in, I got a high B but it was due to me kicking my own butt in a similar situation as yours. Had a Low C near the drop date and i saw multiple students drop. I would agree with Jules as a W does not look good to admissions but you are close enough to a B, so my advice would be get that B but work for an A cause the nursing school classes wont be any easier. Good luck!

I'm not sure that I entirely agree. I definitely agree that drops are unofficially looked at and not favored. However, if you don't have a ton of drops on your record, maybe one is not a huge deal. Second, I am not sure it matters for this application cycle or even next application cycle. If you don't get in, will you reapply for summer 2018? If you do apply for summer 2018, the deadline is still before you could finish it anyway. Is a drop without a repeat worse than a C without a repeat? I tend to think not. I honestly think I'd stick it out for the remainder of the semester, because even if you get a C, the knowledge of what sticks with you, if you retake it, will only help you. Micro taken twice, first with a C, then an A, vs Micro taken twice, first with a drop, then an A... that seems like six of one, half a dozen the other to me. Just my opinion...
Sorry if this question has been asked before but are interviews being sent out to those who sent their app first? From what I'm reading it feels like everyone who sent in their app before the deadline has been getting interviews as opposed to someone who sent it in last minute
That wasn't the case for the fall semester. I sent in my application a few days before the deadline and I was interviewed and accepted in March (the 1st round of interviews.) I'm not sure how they select the applicants for each wave, but I know certainly it's not chronological. Good luck!
Hey guys! My goal was to apply to utmb summer 2018. I recently took my TEAS again and my english did not come out as i expected; one question away from making a 60%.
Reading: 80.9%
Math: 84.4%
Science:78.7%
English: 58.3%
Total: 76.7%
Utmb requires 60% for each section.
I am not sure if i should just go ahead and try to apply, or wait for Fall 2018. Any suggestion guys?

I vote for retaking the TEAS. If you can do that and resubmit by the deadline for fall, then great. Otherwise, I'd wait for fall. Requires means requires.
@ngockiele This is just a suggestion, but I would consider emailing them. I don't know for certain if this is possible but maybe you can apply with the scores you have for summer 2018 and then send them updated scores once you retake the TEAS. They do look at how many times you take the test and consider if you have improved(you don't want to do worse on the next retake). I took my TEAS last year in October and because of my low score I didn't apply for fall of 2017. I retook my TEAS for the second time in February and made a better grade, and therefore I applied for spring 2018. A friend suggested to me I should have still applied and then sent updated scores. I didn't think about it at the time, but it wasn't a bad idea. I hope this is helpful and gives you some kind of idea of what possible options you may have.
