UTMB Spring 2012

Published

Hey Guys!

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for all UTMB Galveston's Spring 2012 traditional bsn applicants. Have you all started to apply yet or at least looked at the application? What do you think? How are your personal statements/testing going? If you guys have anything worth discussing please post and good luck to all!

first, i'm not sure if i am posting this the proper way but i'm giving it a try:) anyway my question is the application (or maybe it was the website) stated before we applied we needed to have i believe it was 46 credits completed. will they even bother to look if i will still be 3 classes short of the full 60 by the time the spring classes start? my teas and gpa are great though.

this was pulled directly from the utmb son site :

admission requirements – all of the following must be completed by the date of admission:

  • complete 60 hours of prerequisites with a minimum gpa of 2.75.

  • bls for healthcare providers - all applicants selected for admission must complete a bls course for healthcare providers which covers infant, child, adult, and two-man cpr. please visit the american heart association's web site to locate a course in your geographical area. proof of current certification must be presented at orientation.
  • all new students will be required to complete a board of nursing (bon) background check four months prior to admission. this comprehensive fbi and homeland security search will replace the background check required after graduation. if an issue is discovered, students will be contacted by the bon and may be required to obtain a declaratory order, which costs $150 and may require four months to process.

  • immunization requirements - evidence of immunizations required by utmb must be submitted to student wellness for verification and processing, including documentation for completed three dose series of hepatitis b vaccines and a positive hepatitis b antibody titer. all immunization requirements must be met to proceed in a clinical course. students who are not in compliance with the above policy will not be permitted to participate in clinical activities

from what i read, i gather that all 60 of the pre-reqs need be completed by the time the program would begin. i am sure they will look at who does is still lacking courses, but they can't really tell if you are going to be done with them or not. since its a basic 'rule' for admission to have all 60 complated...i am sure proof of completion will be required before the semester actually begins.

besides, you wouldn't really have time to complete any other courses besides those that are in the program since each semester consists of 15-17 hours of class already.

Thank you, that is exactly what I saw also, but when I called them back in June they told me to go ahead and apply since it was only 3 classes so i'm just really wondering if I managed to get ahold of someone that didn't know what they were talking about and I tossed 50 bucks down the drain!

*Crossing fingers and holding breath* that we start seeing some interview invites this coming week!!!

Omgosh, that would be great!!! I'm crossing my fingers as well!!! Did anyone attend the July 9th open house and learn any good information?

I talked to SON and they said that they have not recieved any apps from enrollment yet so I doubt that we will get interviews starting this week...

Well that is just disappointing....

From previous threads, it appears that interviews won't be scheduled until September-October. :crying2: We shall see...

When I went to a June open house the director for the nursing program said interviews would not be done until September and letters out by October. She also said they do the accelerated program first then the BSN.

Yup...that's about right. Well, folks! The saga continues...

HEY GUYS!!

I'm also applying for the spring 2012 program. I have a 2.96 and not that great of a TEAS score. Do still have a chance or any hope or am I screwed?????????

Does anyone know the acceptance number?? Since they changed the GPA requirements, does this mean it is easier or harder to get in????

Anyone :(

Omgosh, that would be great!!! I'm crossing my fingers as well!!! Did anyone attend the July 9th open house and learn any good information?

I did but it seemed like the same information posted on the site. I was hoping there would be a one on one session. I needed particular question answered about my self not necessarily broad questions

I could have sworn that at the open house **** mentioned that they had barely started receiving SOME applications but just this week. And I also thought she said that interview invites would start heading out by late July. Didn't she say all that or did I hear wrong??
