UTMB Spring 2010

Published

Hey guys Im making this thread so all of the applicants for UTMB Spring 2010 can follow each other through the process and help each other out! The application deadline is coming up soon! Goodluck to all!:nuke: I know they are only exepting 60 for the spring.

jade i am sorry to hear that..

the red one is right..don't give up..i was told it would be nearly impossible for me to get into nursing school and that i shouldn't try...i think that's one of the reason's i waited so late in life to really try....now i see that's not true. please don't give up.

when i went to my first information session at utmb last year. they had 2 student ambassadors there. one of them "h" said that he was rejected the first time he applied. he said his gpa was shaky. he told us "don't give up."

after the rejection letter, he kept taking classes and made sure to get good grades from that point forward. he made sure his personal statement was quadruple checked and that it explained his transcripts. he said there is nothing more important than that personal statement to get your foot in the door. he finally got his interview and got in! and was at the top of his class at utmb.

he really inspired me and his story gave me hope. he said utmb believes in giving second chances.

we will be here for you jade.

"if you don't know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else."

"laurence j. peter"

do we have to buy all the softwares under the bac program?

does anyone know if we send the acceptance package paper in separate envelopes or all in one? because, they go to difference places but same address.

I sent mine in different envelopes and I hope they got there ok. I need to call and check to see if they were received. Also, I think we will find out what software we need during orientation. I downloaded the skyscape app on my iphone but I haven't set up any of the account information. I think we have to go through a mini-computer camp during orientation. I'm sure they will answer alot of the questions during that camp.

Hope this helps.

yes! thank you!

can’t wait to see everyone at orientation…

ms_sealy - I got a letter in the mail on Thursday from UTMB and they rejected me. I am making plans to apply again and take nurse entrance exams. However, I am also planning to find other avenues into the field. Maybe get my bachelors in Psychology and do fast track or apply to medical schools. Who knows where I will end up from here.

Jade sorry to hear about the news

But i was on the same boat... first time i apply i did not get in :sniff:

You just got to keep trying and dont give up hope b/c it will come!

I'm home from my interview with dr.c. It went really well and I have a much better feeling than the first one. She was very encouraging and helpful, so maybe she'll give me a chance. She did not ask about past grades or my minor violation, she just asked all of the same questions as the first interview. I should be finding out something by Monday or Tuesday...that's going to make Thanksgiving a little stressful :(

Yahoooooo! I'm glad to hear it :-). I know there's no possible way not to worry about it over Thanksgiving, but try your best. A good feeling after an interview is a HUGE sign! :-D

katie- i wonder why you were asked for a second interview if they didnt address any of that? strange...but hey you got a second interview and thats awesome. good luck...did they say when you would know anything?

also i got a response to my question email and here it goes:

i was accepted into your generic bsn and have a few questions that weren't clarified in the admissions packet i received. i am not sure if you are the one to answer these questions so if not please advise who i should email.

1. what time is orientation on jan 5th and 6th? complete information will be sent to all new students in early december. both dates will start at 7:00 am.

2. when is the first day of class? your first day will be january 7, 2010.

3. when and how do we register for class? all new students will be batch registered by the admissions office.

4. where do you advise we buy our books? you may purchase your textbooks at the utmb bookstore or any store you chose. the books for the courses you will taking are listed as bsn jr 3390, 3410, 3340, and 3631 at this site: (pm me for details)

5. i see in the packet that certain form are asked to be returned to different parts if the school (admissions, registrar, ministry, etc.) so does that mean i need to mail out these forms to 4 or 5 different places or do i mail everything back to admissions and they see that it gets to the right place? return all forms to our admissions office.

6. when is tuition due so i can make sure my finances are in order? please call ********* or enrollment services.

7. how much will tuition and books be approximately? ****** or enrollment services can answer the tuition question. books are approximately $500/semester.

8. i see the bacc2 admits received a 5k dollar grant to help with school....is this available to generic student unfortunately it is not. the son will offer scholarships next semester which you can apply for online.

9. what shoes are we required to wear for clinicals? any all white shoe with a closed toe and heel. for recommendations, you can contact *********

10. what is the parking situation for students? you can purchase a parking permit after you receive your id badge. for orientation, you will park at the utmb shuttle lot-instructions will be provided.

thanks for your help

you can pm me if you want more details.

does that mean they are not offering ANY financial aid for the generic? maybe i should have done the bacc2 program afterall, if they got 5k. i chose the generic instead so that i could still work. i'm all confused, but too late now huh? i'll make it all work

Well on some previous posts I read that the Bacc2 admits were given a 5K grant for their first sememster. I think grants and scholarships are different from reg financial aide that you have to pay pack. This was free money they got. I wondered if we were going to get free money too and it looks like free money is available after the first sememster according to what she said. I dont think this has anything to do with you getting loans so I wouldnt worry about it at all.

I think you're right, I'm just worried about not being able to pay for school, I've come too far to not be able to pay my tuition. Who else was it that also had a degree, we were talking about our limited aid...?

Maybe we'll get a visit from the tuition fairy :tinkbll:

That was me... Let's just wait and see what they say. We can do it!!!
