UTMB Fall 2010 Application period starts tomorrow Nov. 15, 2009

Who here is applying for it?

Btw, there is the ATI TEAS entrance exam for FALL 2010.

Anyone taken it yet?

I can't seem to find the registration for it in the atitesting.com.

Oh, and a girl in one of my classes said that her friend got into UTMB SON with a 3.29 last semester. I thought that was very surprising.

Hey everyone!

Wanted to let you know that your Application Signature page doesn't have to be in by the deadline. When I applied for the Fall term, I Fedexed mine so that I could track it. It was delivered and signed for but the Admissions office never found it, so I had to send another. I didn't find out til a few days before the deadline and they told me that it was ok and wasn't necessary to have by the deadline. So don't stress! Plus we still have a few weeks to get everything in.

I did most of my prereqs at Wharton.

I don't know if there is any truth to this, but one of my professors said that UTMB tends to favor San Jacinto students. I do know that UTMB asked San Jac to set up a Pathophysiology class and that they worked together to create the curiculum.

I know they have Patho at San Jac but I don't think they really favor San Jac students more. I think a lot of it had to do with San Jac being a community college relatively close to Galveston and Houston, and it is a good school. I know HCC doesn't offer Pathophysiology. But didn't UTMB take it off the prerequisites list? They don't have it listed as a prereq anymore, new students will probably take it at UTMB like with other nursing programs, so that kind of takes the whole San Jac thing off the table.

I did hear that San Jac is supposed to be "harder" in science classes than HCC - I had classes at HCC w/ a lot of San Jac students who had failed the course and wanted to take it at HCC with an "easier" teacher. Needless to say, a lot of those same students still got low or failing grades, so that too may be just rumor. I also asked my Microbiology teacher at HCC (who also taught at UH and San Jac) who said that the "required material" that each school made them cover per semester was basically the same and it depends on the teacher and the student, not on the school.

Not to discourage you or anything. If you have a head up by going to San Jac that's good for you, but I think a lot of it is just hearsay. Unless someone in your admissions interview is a former San Jac student, I don't think the school you go to will really get you favored more. It's just your grades, test grade (maybe, who knows what they'll REALLy use our TEAS scores for), and your interview. Anything else would be bias on a few people and wouldn't reflect all of UTMB.

Really??? Did you apply for Fall 2009 term you mean?

I hope that's the case because they didn't seem to care if they got to mine before the deadline or not when I called to ask if it was received yet!! lol They didn't tell me it didn't matter they just said to call back in a week...

Hello future nurses! :D

Can you guys tell me everything that I need to have turned in before the deadline, please?? I sent in my transcript, i applied online, and i just sent my singature page. Is that it? Do I need to turn in my immunization and meningitis papers too?

Thanks guys! I'm taking the TEAS on Feb. 8th so I guess ATI will send it directly to UTMB. I'm so nervous!

I'm PRETTY sure that the immunizations only need to be turned in if you are accepted to the program.

So as far as everything else goes, you're good to go. I would just call and/or e-mail to make sure that they received your transcripts, signature page, and application because since it's pretty close to the deadline you MAY not receive your e-connect information until after the deadline. (It took forever for me to get it!) You don't want to risk finding out that your transcripts got lost when it's too late, for instance.

Thanks Natatat. I will call them tomorrow. Do you know which dept would be best?

I would call Enrollment Services at 409-772-1215 and they should be able to answer your question. You can also send them an email at [email protected] - Hope that helps.

So all my information has been received and now all there is to do is wait! I would keep bugging the enrollment services to see if they have everything. I had to send in three signature pages because they had no record of the first two.

natatat- I meant to say Spring 2010 was when I applied last. It's not necessary for the signature page to be there by the deadline, but I would still keep calling them to follow up.

As for the Patho, it's not required. You just need an extra biology or chemistry class. Dr. C told me that even if you took Patho at a community college, you would still have to take it again at UTMB.

Michelle101- Immunization records aren't due until orientation if you are accepted. I'm sure you already know, but this is just a reminder, the Hepatitis B series takes 6 months (Some drs have series that only takes 4 months) to complete and then 4-6 weeks to show a positive titer. I believe Fall orientation is in the middle of August so the Hep B series needs to be started no later than the end of January.

I also took all my prereq's at San Jac. I graduated from San Jac in 2008 with a biology degree. I really love their science department. I agree though, I don't think if you attended San Jac or a 4 year school would make a difference to UTMB.

Anybody who hasn't taken the TEAS test yet going this Saturday?
