UTMB spring 2011 applicants
@funnygrl78: I just realized my messages from allnurses were going into my spam, so sorry for the late response. I think almost half of the students took patho before coming to UTMB and it has helped them alot. Pathopharm is the weed out class. The teacher has an accent and goes through alot of material very quickly. Example: our second exam covers 39 chapters! I wish I would have taken patho before I came, so good job being proactive. As for clinicals, a large number live on the island. They were NOT gauranteed to have clinicals on the island. I think I have 2 or 3 in my group at Methodist Sugar Land that live permanently on the island. The school does try to consider where you live, but when you have so many students and so few clinical instructors and willing hospitals, not eveyone can be on the island. Personally, I would choose to live close to school because on lab weeks you are on campus every day. Then if your clinicals were somewhere else, you would only have to drive far 2 days every other week (for first semester- i think for 2nd semester you go one day every wk). Also, you could always ask another student to switch clinical locations with you. I hope everyone's interviews went well!! Good luck to everyone!!

UTMB spring 2011 applicants
hey guys!! I just started the fall bsn program at utmb and just wanted to say good luck with your applications and interviews. Make sure you are constantly on top of what documents the office has received before the deadline! Most nursing schools are disorganized, and UTMB is definitely a little scatter brained! Also, don't be surprised if they say interviews will be in September and then they get pushed back to October. Biggest thing about the application process - be patient and be flexible! Also, just FYI, I was always told "oh you'll only be on campus 3 days a week" - this is not true. Maybe the Accelerated program is different than ours, but for first semester you are on campus for 5 days a week for the first month. After that, you will rotate every other week - 5 days a week and then 3 days a week + 2 days clinicals (whereever they are). For the clinicals, they definitely try to spread you out, but that's mainly because they can't have 80 students doing clinicals only at UTMB. I live in Sugar Land and have clinicals out here, but there is a girl in my group that drives from League City to Sugar Land. I have heard that for other semesters you aren't on campus as much. So Good Luck to all of you and if you have any questions, just send them over.

UTMB FALL 2010 (University of Texas Medical Branch)
@skygrl sorry to hear about your letter. something will work out. keep your head held high. good luck with ut!!! @horseloverbubba questions include: why do you want to be a nurse? why do you want to go to utmb? single words that describe yourself? how do you plan on paying for school? have you applied for financial aid? do you have a backup plan? what is kind of support do you have? how would you handle an unsatisfactory grade? i'm so excited for all those who have interviews this friday. good luck!!

@horseloverbubba i am not sure about the 70 out of 100. i keep thinking it ended up being in the 60s. don't quote me on that though. don't forget that about 1/4 or 1/3 decline their acceptance because they have been accepted somewhere else so that can increase the odds also. for the background check, they do that ahead of time because they wouldn't want to have to retract an acceptance letter later down the road because of something popping up on the background check.

@horseloverbubba yes last year they did 2 dates for traditional and 2 dates for bacc2 but then they also had a few extra exceptions here and there on other dates and also a few people got phone interviews. i interviewed last year. they had my application wrong, and by the time they called me for an interview all the spots were filled so i was waitlisted. @michelle2841 don't be discouraged. many people with under than 4.0, even down to 3.1 have been accepted. the school prides themselves on the fact that they aren't looking for only 4.0 students-sometimes someone with a 3.0 can be a better nurse than someone with a 4.0.

UTMB FALL 2010 (University of Texas Medical Branch)
natatat- I meant to say Spring 2010 was when I applied last. It's not necessary for the signature page to be there by the deadline, but I would still keep calling them to follow up. As for the Patho, it's not required. You just need an extra biology or chemistry class. Dr. C told me that even if you took Patho at a community college, you would still have to take it again at UTMB. Michelle101- Immunization records aren't due until orientation if you are accepted. I'm sure you already know, but this is just a reminder, the Hepatitis B series takes 6 months (Some drs have series that only takes 4 months) to complete and then 4-6 weeks to show a positive titer. I believe Fall orientation is in the middle of August so the Hep B series needs to be started no later than the end of January.

UTMB FALL 2010 (University of Texas Medical Branch)
Hey everyone! Wanted to let you know that your Application Signature page doesn't have to be in by the deadline. When I applied for the Fall term, I Fedexed mine so that I could track it. It was delivered and signed for but the Admissions office never found it, so I had to send another. I didn't find out til a few days before the deadline and they told me that it was ok and wasn't necessary to have by the deadline. So don't stress! Plus we still have a few weeks to get everything in. I did most of my prereqs at Wharton.

UTMB FALL 2010 (University of Texas Medical Branch)
Hi guys! New to this thread! Just wanted to wish everyone good luck in the application process. Also, wanted to tell everyone to stay on top of UTMB and your application. I applied for Spring 2010, and when I didn't get an interview, I decided to call and see what happened. They told me that I didn't have all my classes done, even though I did. SO eventually I got interviewed when they realized they had messed up but it was after they had sent out acceptance letters, so I was waitlisted. Now I am in the process of updating my app and waiting to see what happens for the fall. So if your eConnect is missing something, or you haven't heard anything from them, keep calling. Good Luck!!
