UTMB Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are applying to UTMB for Fall 2011. There are some really great (and long!) threads out there for Spring 2011 and earlier...but as I'm sure y'all know, the application process can change from cycle to cycle, plus it's just nice to have a new thread for us. :) So feel free to post questions, comments, or anything related to applications!

I'm applying as a second-degree student to UTMB, UTHSC, TWU (Houston), UT Arlington and A&M, plus maybe the new Texas State program. Whew! I keep hearing great things about UTMB so that might be my #1....

A question to start us off: so we can now use either the centralized NursingCAS application, or the application through UTMB, right? :uhoh3: What are you all going to do? I'm thinking of just doing UTMB's direct application....if you do NursingCAS, I think you'll have to do a supplemental UTMB application+fee anyway, so you might as well just do it all once...thoughts?

hi guys!

first of all i would like to congrats all of those who have been chosen for an interview with utmb. for those of you who are waiting just hang in there and i wish you all the best.

i am a pre-nursing student who will be applying to utmb for the spring 2012 semester. i took the teas a couple days ago and made a 76. my overall gpa is a 3.7 with some classes not counting towards nursing such as pre-cal, cal, and advanced chem (those were my low grades). however, everything after that has been an a.

so my question is, what do you guys think my chances are of getting accepted? i was aiming for a b on the teas, but didn't manage to get that :(

looking forward to your comments. thanks!

1. grab a quarter

2. pick heads or tails

3. flip it

that's about the best guess you'll get.

good luck!!!

Overall 3.2, science 4.0, TEAS 96. No medical experience unfortunately :( I got my rejection from UTHSC last Tuesday...that really sucked. But UTMB has always been my #1...still waiting to hear anything. I emailed student affairs, and they said they're continually reviewing applications. So if we haven't heard yet it's not over, folks! (Rationally I know this, but I still feel anxious, and reading allnurses can either help or aggravate the situation, haha) ;)

How did you get rejected? They aren't sending letters until April 1st... and I know that for a fact. I know they sent out e-mails for people who did/ did not make it past the second round-- which I don't know what the requirements were, but if I were you I'd call. They sometimes let you know why your admission status is what it is. Is this for another program other than the traditional track BSN? Anyways, I think your TEAS scores are great compared to A LOT of people.

@PAMQ: Um, nope, they sent out admissions stuff a few weeks ago. I got a letter in the mail on March 8th (I remember because it was Mardi Gras, so I went out and partied away my depression!) Check out the "Fall 2011 UT Houston Health Sciences Hopefuls" thread---a ton of people already know if they're in or not. They didn't do interviews this cycle, so the whole process happened sooner than usual. .

You are talking about UTHSC Houston, right? Not San Antonio. Because all the people on that thread found out via UTLink or letter, not email. And yes, this is about the traditional track.

And thank you, re: TEAS. :) It's my strong point. All our applications have strengths and weaknesses I'm sure! You have great stats too! And FYI lots of people who've had interviews don't have the 3.8+ GPAs or super high scores.

@PAMQ

Im actually living in Alaska right now and I had a phone interview today with utmb because I live so far away. If you are selected for an interview maybe you can also have a phone interview. I recieved my rejection letter from UTHSC a week or so ago unfortuanately as well!

Just got home from my interview and it went REALLY well! She said the admissions committee meets every Monday and I should know within 2-3 weeks after that.

Hey did they tell you how many people they were interviewing and how many were accepted? I asked today during my interview and she told me they were interviewing EVERYONE. I find that hard to believe, and then she told us we should know before May 1st. Hopefully it's soon.

hmmm, I have to agree with you - about the interviewing everyone part.

Anyone happen to known when round two notices will begin to go out??

Hi everyone,

Im new at this. I found out about this site yesterday while waiting for my interview. This is site is very helpful! Wish I would have known about it sooner. And About the when do we find out who's in or not. The lady that interviewed me said she thinks they'll be mailing letters out at the end of April. I'm also hoping to find the girls I talked to in the room to see how it went!:o) My interview was at 10am.

I'm glad u found this site! I'm one of the girls that was in the waiting room with u when the ladies walked in to just get coffee and we though they were the interviewers -_- my interview went well also :) I was told that the committee meets every omday to decide who gets accepted but she doesnt know when the letters go out. But from previous threads I've seen people get acceptance letters a week and a half after their interview

Oh, haha... I was talking about UTHSC in San Antonio... Houston was my first choice, but I ended up not applying because my TEAS test didn't have a Critical Thinking section... long story.... but you know, UTHSC in Houston is ranked at the top for nursing grad school in Texas according to US News Report... so that must say something about their BSN program, too. You all have great stats, but that makes me wonder what the students who got in made, haha. Good luck, though, with all the other schools you guys applied to! And thanks for the info! I hope I hear from UTMB soon
