UTMB Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are applying to UTMB for Fall 2011. There are some really great (and long!) threads out there for Spring 2011 and earlier...but as I'm sure y'all know, the application process can change from cycle to cycle, plus it's just nice to have a new thread for us. :) So feel free to post questions, comments, or anything related to applications!

I'm applying as a second-degree student to UTMB, UTHSC, TWU (Houston), UT Arlington and A&M, plus maybe the new Texas State program. Whew! I keep hearing great things about UTMB so that might be my #1....

A question to start us off: so we can now use either the centralized NursingCAS application, or the application through UTMB, right? :uhoh3: What are you all going to do? I'm thinking of just doing UTMB's direct application....if you do NursingCAS, I think you'll have to do a supplemental UTMB application+fee anyway, so you might as well just do it all once...thoughts?

Hey I had way over 70 on the teas and my gpa is higher than 3.0 and no word back either...

is it your overall gpa or only science and nursing prerequisites? I am totally freaking out here...my to do list has nothing and says my app is complete

I am new to this very long thread. I have been trying to get up to speed on the information on here. I was talking with a friend from class and she said she got a lot of information from this site, so I registered and found everyone. I applied to UTMB Jan 4th. I haven't heard anything yet, but the girl in my class said she was contacted for an interview. I have an overall GPA of 3.39/ sciences 3.81. The problem is I have past F's on my transcript, but they dont have to do with nursing courses except for economics and algebra. yet I retook those courses and recieved A's in them. I didn't take school very seriously until I started going back two years ago. Since then my grades have been really good. Im getting really nervous. Does anyone know any stats for the 2001 Fall applicants. My teas score was a 79. I dont know if thats good or bad. Whats the deal?

Stephanie, it's me from chem. I have had 3 F's back in 2006 when I was pregnant with my daughter and recieved 2 C's too... I wasn't taking college seriously right after high school but I also started school 2 years ago and have made nothing but straight A's and a couple B's since. I was contacted by Phi Theta Kappa (an honor society) and was on the Dean's list 2 semesters ago. Also, I worked at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center for 2 years as a CNA and gained a lot of experience there... As well as my 2nd job NOW at UTHSC as a standardized patient. I heard that UTMB also likes well rounded students, unlike UTHSC who bases their applicants on grades and test scores only.

You will most likely be interviwed then... If it helps, my last name starts with a B?? Maybe they're doing alphabetical? Or randomization?? :)

Thanks Katejane, it helps to hear that other people with complete apps and those stats have not heard. I'm starting to feel calm again about the whole thing, actually. (Application mood swings, y'all know what I'm talking about! :lol2:) I think we'll get interviews.

Oh, and @Aubrey: Mine says the same. Nothing on to-do list, app is complete, and I've now heard a few times that they're reviewing batches of applications, so it's not over yet, friend! :hug:And I believe they're still doing all three GPAs for our semester (overall, science and nursing).

...Now that I think about it, do y'all think that "88 applications with 3.0/70" was just so far? Like of the applications they'd gone through by the info session, that's how many people fit that criteria? I think that would make much more sense...WAY more than 88 applicants must have those qualifications, if these boards give any indication (plus all the people not on Allnurses)!

Good luck to everyone who has an interview today!!!

Gabyhouston-I have the exact same problem. I have not contacted twu about it since i thought it was just in error, but it is still on my to do list. Have you spoke to anyone at twu about this?

I called Utmb, and they said they are going to send my application to the review committee. (after i emailed my supporting statement) So hopefully I hear something back.

hi guys!

first of all i would like to congrats all of those who have been chosen for an interview with utmb. for those of you who are waiting just hang in there and i wish you all the best.

i am a pre-nursing student who will be applying to utmb for the spring 2012 semester. i took the teas a couple days ago and made a 76. my overall gpa is a 3.7 with some classes not counting towards nursing such as pre-cal, cal, and advanced chem (those were my low grades). however, everything after that has been an a.

so my question is, what do you guys think my chances are of getting accepted? i was aiming for a b on the teas, but didn't manage to get that :(

looking forward to your comments. thanks!

My pre- req GPA is a little higher than a 3.5, but to round it's a 3.5 and on the TEAS I made a 87%. I haven't even gotten a letter for an interview... these people with the first round must have like 3.8s and 90% + TEAS scores haha... but to remain hopeful, people also reject UTMB which opens more seats... and also the interview may not go as well. I honestly didn't even know they did interviews... is it a fixed date? Or do they give you a range? Because I live 7 hours away. Anywho, I'm glad there's a thread like this. Congrats to the people who have interviews... and good luck to everyone else! :)

Just got home from my interview and it went REALLY well! She said the admissions committee meets every Monday and I should know within 2-3 weeks after that.
