UTMB Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are applying to UTMB for Fall 2011. There are some really great (and long!) threads out there for Spring 2011 and earlier...but as I'm sure y'all know, the application process can change from cycle to cycle, plus it's just nice to have a new thread for us. :) So feel free to post questions, comments, or anything related to applications!

I'm applying as a second-degree student to UTMB, UTHSC, TWU (Houston), UT Arlington and A&M, plus maybe the new Texas State program. Whew! I keep hearing great things about UTMB so that might be my #1....

A question to start us off: so we can now use either the centralized NursingCAS application, or the application through UTMB, right? :uhoh3: What are you all going to do? I'm thinking of just doing UTMB's direct application....if you do NursingCAS, I think you'll have to do a supplemental UTMB application+fee anyway, so you might as well just do it all once...thoughts?

I haven't receive an email or letter for an interview yet. :(

Sigh.

There are several students in my A/P2 class that applied to UTMB and none of them (including myself) have received an interview invitation or a rejection yet. I'm sure they are still getting this stuff out there.

I wish they'd just send out the outright rejection letters so if we don't have a chance at all we're not hanging. (I dropped my chem so I'm probably disqualified anyway but I'd still like to know if I had a CHANCE! and if I were to be invited to an interview I'd still go since technically I'll have the class completed before the start of the program).

I agree Moon - it would be a nice courtesy to send out rejections from the very beginning. Actually, I think their entire process could use an overhaul, maybe that's just me though.

Where are you taking your A&P and Chem??

Tacmann, you heard anything?? (and are we in the same class???)

San Jacinto College.. I've got AP2, Micro in progress and will take chem over the summer. I had originally signed up for it but dropped because three science/lab classes were too much and I was risking bringing down all the grades.

South? That's where I'm taking patho right now.

I have not heard anything, standing by....yes, we are in the same Patho class. This is my only local choice for School. If this does not work out I am looking at direct entry masters programs. They seem to focus more on GPA from your degree than the first two years of school. My nursing prereq. are at 2.91/ science 3.0 but my bach degree was 3.8. We shall see.

I have some information about the interviews!

I emailed Ms. Turner (the pre-admission advisor) about receiving interview emails, and she sent me this reply:

We are still receiving and reviewing applications and plan to issue all interview invitations by mid April.

So for those who haven't received anything yet (like me), there's still time.

Hopefully that eased some of yall's tension.

She told me the same thing this morning.

I'm actually going to both campuses.. A/P at central and Micro at south. :)

I am new to this very long thread. I have been trying to get up to speed on the information on here. I was talking with a friend from class and she said she got a lot of information from this site, so I registered and found everyone. I applied to UTMB Jan 4th. I haven't heard anything yet, but the girl in my class said she was contacted for an interview. I have an overall GPA of 3.39/ sciences 3.81. The problem is I have past F's on my transcript, but they dont have to do with nursing courses except for economics and algebra. yet I retook those courses and recieved A's in them. I didn't take school very seriously until I started going back two years ago. Since then my grades have been really good. Im getting really nervous. Does anyone know any stats for the 2001 Fall applicants. My teas score was a 79. I dont know if thats good or bad. Whats the deal?

stephmarie2008 according to the assistant dean if you have over a 70 teas and over 3.0 gpa you are a very strong candidate (only 88 people had this minimum). however, past f's & withdraws may hurt you. you should be able to get an interview.

I don't understand why that can't review and notify all. at. once.
