UTMB Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are applying to UTMB for Fall 2011. There are some really great (and long!) threads out there for Spring 2011 and earlier...but as I'm sure y'all know, the application process can change from cycle to cycle, plus it's just nice to have a new thread for us. :) So feel free to post questions, comments, or anything related to applications!

I'm applying as a second-degree student to UTMB, UTHSC, TWU (Houston), UT Arlington and A&M, plus maybe the new Texas State program. Whew! I keep hearing great things about UTMB so that might be my #1....

A question to start us off: so we can now use either the centralized NursingCAS application, or the application through UTMB, right? :uhoh3: What are you all going to do? I'm thinking of just doing UTMB's direct application....if you do NursingCAS, I think you'll have to do a supplemental UTMB application+fee anyway, so you might as well just do it all once...thoughts?

I'm glad u found this site! I'm one of the girls that was in the waiting room with u when the ladies walked in to just get coffee and we though they were the interviewers -_- my interview went well also :) I was told that the committee meets every omday to decide who gets accepted but she doesnt know when the letters go out. But from previous threads I've seen people get acceptance letters a week and a half after their interview

Im glad your interview went good!! haha ya those ladies had me jumping every time they walked in! Im glad its over. Now all there is to do is wait! :) Are you the girl that lived close to where I do, I don't want to say the city since this is public but it starts with an S lol

Yes! I was the one that broke the Awkward silence lol The interview was ok...I just didn't have time to prepare since I had found out the day before that I had it you know. My answers sounded average :/ but the lady was super nice! And yes I hope we all get in! :) -What happened in yours that it didn't go well?

well my interviewer asked me a question and i kinda answered wrong cuz i was so nervous.. but was so nice. i dont even know what to expect :( i feel like i should of gave a more longer response... but we shall seeeeeeeeeee. >__

What kind of questions were ya'll asked?

Hey everyone!

I just received an email for an interview on Monday and am nervous about it!

Does anyone know what kind of questions they ask in the interviews?

Good luck to everyone!

@ butterflygarza

Yes im the one from "S" lol from what i've seen on previous threads people recieved both acceptance letters/emails 9 days after their interviews

As for the questions being asked during the interview, just be honest in answering the questions. Don't try to answer according to what you think utmb wants to hear. Good luck to all who have upcoming interviews! Don't be nervous. The interviewers are all really friendly and they want to see you do well

Pretty much each week that passes without hearing anything brings my hope down about 10 fold. I wish they'd just get crap together and finalize notices. If I'm not going to have a shot at even interviewing, I'd like to know now. :(

Don't forget spring break was thrown in there to add an extra week. Don't stopping shopping schools while waiting. Here is a good source for school lists:

I'm limited to the Houston area - UTHSC and TWU are completely out of the question, went to talk to counselors at both and that was made VERY clear. UTMB is my only shot at this time. Can't just re-locate - believe me, I often regret not doing this right 11 years ago. So now I'm at the mercy of one college who has a screwball admissions system. My hail-mary is a transition program, but still haven't heard from any of those either. Getting pretty darn bummed. :crying2:

ETA: You in class right now? I skipped tonight - just not in the mood for Patho today!

Punkydoodles---what about Prairie View or HBU? Both have high NCLEX pass rates and decent reputations from what I know.

Anyway, it ain't over yet! I hear you on the frustration, getting antsy over here. But they are making progress, so we'll see...

@atnguy---congrats, good luck, and thanks for letting us know! Looks like next round is next Monday! I would search this site for interview tips, there's some good stuff. Even some of the questions for RN job interviews might be relevant here.

Howdy all!

While I was completely working myself up because I have yet to hear anything from UTMB I stumbled upon this thread, and I am so thankful for it!

I want to congratulate all those who have already received interviews, and I want to wish everyone good luck!

My only question is that my To Do List in MyStar states that I need to submit a transcript for the classes I'm currently taking. Of course that will not be available until May. It gives me a contact name but no information. Has anyone else had this issue? Is this affecting my application status? MyStar says my application is complete.

I am applying for the traditional BSN. I made an 85.3 on the TEAS, and after this semester I should have a 2.85 overall, and 3.3 in both prerequisites and sciences. Unfortunately during my first degree at A&M I didn't take school that seriously, and so I'm paying for it now.

Oh and just in case...

I know it's not fair to directly ask what questions were asked in the interview, but I was curious if they were questions geared towards you personally, or if they more current events in health care or things of that nature.

Not eligible for HBU either. I'm severely anxious for 2014 so I can wipe my ugly transcript. It was in 2004 and I recv'd 4 f's, and three were nursing pre-reqs. I'm sure that's probably the hold up with UTMB as well. Even though there is good reason for that semester (abrupted placenta that led to fetal demise)

I'm working hard to relax, but I can't help but have a gut feeling that isn't good, since I haven't heard anything positive and my new grades are high, my teas was good, I'm already a nurse, I was military medic 8 years, and I volunteer a lot - basically well rounded like they said they like...

If I'm not going to be accepted, I just wish they'd get my pain over with so I can focus on trying to love my job and make other life plans for the mean-time.
