I applied for the Fall 2008 Accelerated BSN program and am very excited to have an interview on April 10 - the letter just came in the mail today! Anyway, I wasn't able to find any recent threads for applicants applying for this year so wanted to see if there were any applicants out there.
I'm interested to hear from any current or former students in the program. Is this a good program? What are some of the pros and cons?
I currently live in Houston and prefer to stay if I am accepted to any of the 3 nursing schools here, but I would certainly not hesitate to relocate to SA for nursing school.
I'm not sure whether we can "really" choose the clinical locations though. I asked the lady who interviewed me about the rotation areas. Back that time, she told me SON (School of Nursing) tends to decide for students.. However, they are look the areas of people lives and might have possible to let students to write down their priorities...
Anyway, they might change the policies each year though.. never know/// ^ ^
Are you exciting about the new semester??
I'm looking for the housing though... >~~~
Hoepfully this year's tuition won't be too expensive..
Have anyone found the housing yet? Or maybe if any of you live around the UTHSCSA.. Could you give me some advices about the living conditions, safety...
I just back from SA this past weekend.. Haven't found any yet (over 10 aparstments and few houses) Of course, I started the lowest rates//
Thank you!!
I'd like some advice too If anyone has any experiences, we'd love to hear from you :)
From what I was told, southward of the campus is not a very safe place to live in.
I went looking for apartments about 3 weeks ago... I think I'm going for either Walnut Hill or St. Moritz on Babcock/Lamb Rd ($499/$515 for 1 bed/baths), but it's strictly for the location/price.
My quest for my BSN/RN is officially on now. I just got accepted to the accelerated program! Yippie! I should be all done in 16 months!
FOR THOSE OF YOU ASKING ABOUT HOUSING:
I worked for UTHSCSA as a research biologist for a couple of years. I can tell you that it's just as safe to live south of campus as it is anywhere else. That area of town has it's fair share of issues, period. BUT, overall it's not a bad neighborhood, just use caution during the evening and night time hours if you are walking alone. If you have a car, and don't mind driving 15 minutes or so (really, it will usually take you longer than that to walk from your "close" apartment) you should look a little further out. You will pay less rent, have more to choose from and it will be a lot quieter. Because of all the hospitals concentrated in one area, and the University Hospital being a level 1 trauma unit, there is CONSTANT siren and helicopter noise. Everyone I have known who rented in the immediate area has moved elsewhere in the city for that very reason.
Good luck to everyone.

I dont know? I think they are already registered for us and the only choice we "kind of" have a say in is where out clinicals are located. I wish the school was more informational and not as secretive.....LOL
If you hear anything please let us know THanks
