I applied for the Fall 2008 Accelerated BSN program and am very excited to have an interview on April 10 - the letter just came in the mail today! Anyway, I wasn't able to find any recent threads for applicants applying for this year so wanted to see if there were any applicants out there.
I'm interested to hear from any current or former students in the program. Is this a good program? What are some of the pros and cons?
I currently live in Houston and prefer to stay if I am accepted to any of the 3 nursing schools here, but I would certainly not hesitate to relocate to SA for nursing school.
It is about to be 10 years since I had my Hep shot, and I'm going to have titer done next week. I really hope it turns out ok, because if it doesn't, it will be too late to start the 3 shot series and I'll have to get an accelerated Hep shot (which is apparently really expensive, but it's ok). This just makes me kind of mad because I called to ask if I needed a titer like 2 months ago and I was told that I didn't even if my shot was like 10 years old. I asked on several different occasions and was told the same thing. If it hadn't been for you guys talking about getting a blood titer, I wouldn't have known!! After I saw those posts I called and asked and found out that I did have to have a titer done. This is kind of frustrating, but it can easily be fixed.
Hey Guys! I am new here and just got my acceptance letter as well!!! I am glad to see you all are about the same age as me...I was worried about going back to school at 30...LOL...I also tried to get into the accelerated program, but did not make it in...I was told on another thread that some positions may open up if students dont sign up....I have also heard from former students that the first semester is difficult and stressful, but it gets easier as you go.....Good luck to all!!
lag12: trust me, u will not feel out of place...most ppl are older..im actually one of the babies of the class at 22, there arent that many young ppl...don't get me wrong, there are some, but there are more older ppl, from what i've been seeing....1st semester is difficult, stressful, and time consuming...LEARN NOW HOW TO MANAGE UR TIME...thats a very vital skill....i had to learn the hard way...well, i got to get back to studyin for finals...any other advice wanted 2 guys can PM me...since i've noticed that alot of upper classman don't use this site, for some weird reason..CONGRATS!...
LOL Dream2b is right. Somewhere on the website I found some statistics on males and females in the nursing program and how many people per age group, etc., and it said that the average age of a nursing student is 32 years...so you're right where you should be!
That's awesome! I'm turning the big 35 this month. I quit my job as a scientist to fulfill my dream of nursing. I don't know why I didn't just do it to start with. There was a nursing program at my university. Anyhow, I'm glad to see that there will be plenty of girls my age to learn with, become friends with and probably work with in the future!
You guys sound wonderful!! I am SO glad that we will be together in the same class!! I am quitting my career as a public school teacher of 9 years to go back to nursing school...it has not been an easy decision but I am ready for the new challenge!! I have always wanted to be a nurse and always found myself doing something else for whatever reason...LOL....Maybe we can get together before school starts so we know each other at orientation!!
