UTHSCSA - UT Health Science Center at San Antonio

I applied for the Fall 2008 Accelerated BSN program and am very excited to have an interview on April 10 - the letter just came in the mail today! Anyway, I wasn't able to find any recent threads for applicants applying for this year so wanted to see if there were any applicants out there.

I'm interested to hear from any current or former students in the program. Is this a good program? What are some of the pros and cons?

I currently live in Houston and prefer to stay if I am accepted to any of the 3 nursing schools here, but I would certainly not hesitate to relocate to SA for nursing school.

When you get close to finishing prereqs it can get very exciting and nervewrecking!:D I applied for fall 2008. I turned in my application as soon as I got my grades for fall 2007. I still had to take 3 more classes in Spring 2008 ( you mention this on your application). While you're trying to concentrate on getting through your classes you play the waiting game. Good luck with everything!!!:typing:D

WOW school starts in less than a month...sooooo....how about all that assigned reading? I haven't started yet because of summer classes.

:eek:I know pixiedrink!!! I'm kind of anxious but then I freak out. No I haven't had a chance to even get my books. Well its more that I'm waiting for my next paycheck. Have you at least bought your books? If so, how much did it come out to? Thanks!!:stdnrsrck:

I have purchased about half of them so far and I've spent around $550-ish :(!!! I guess it could be worse...

I'm going to sound so behind on things but we've assigned readings? Where are they listed?

I think we got it with the packet where the Heart to Heart information came. Towards the top of the page, there is a sentence in bold that reads "Important things to know in advance" and there are 4 bullets. The fourth bullet on that page explains that we have assigned reading that is due during the first 2 weeks of class and then it lists all of our assigned reading. The good thing is that we have almost a month!

Hey guys I will be going into 4th semester. Let me know if any of yall have questions!!! WELCOME :nurse:

Hey I went to the school and got all the books today and the ATI testing with all the used books that were available I spent 1,260. Then I got the parking permit so that was $94.00....fun. My family is gonna be eating ramen for weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!! j/k

What!? The parking permit was $94? whoa! Did I read wrong? I finally got half of my books, but i'm ordering a couple off the internet, which will be a good savings. I can't believe how expensive books are.

WOW! I would never buy books at the bookstore. I found all books online and saved alot of money. I only bought the ATI testing book from the bookstore b/c I have no choice.

There are some books that you may not use and the internet is a lot cheaper. My first semester books were about 800-900(I did not buy all of the recommended books). If I found that I needed those recommened books, I went back later and bought them or bought them off the internet.

Yeah, I know all about the internet books, most people have good luck with that but ,5x count them 5x ,I purchased books online and either they never sent them, or they were very damaged, missing pages and stuff. Oh and just taking forever to get them. They were all from the same sites other people have no problem with. I just don't have the best luck with things like that. SOOO I choose to go this route. I loose money but save time and stress. (just my experience)

I bought the recommended books too.I always prefer to be over prepared. It's all part of being a control freak I guess.:D:banghead:
