hello all,
guess i'll get our thread started. i've watched these over the last few semesters, and it's a great way to share information and get to know each other.
i applied earlier this month, and got an e-mail this evening letting me know that i am eligible regarding my prerequisites. i was surprised to get something back so quickly since the deadline is july 1. anyway, that's the first step in the process...a long, long process. :) hopefully, there will be plenty of us on here to keep each other company.
look forward to getting through this process with you.
@ tori....i'm already done with my immunizations. i took care of them while i still had insurance with my previous employer. insurance paid for everything, even titers, so that was nice. i'm glad i planned ahead.
i'm fairly sure that i will get this job, and i think the insurance kicks in after 30 days, but i need to have something to show for it on nov. 1 to register. but honestly, i don't really think it's like other schools where you have to compete for spots in certain classes. if that's the case, then i don't know how important it is to register right away.
i guess i need to call the school to get a little more information.
@hpoala...another suggestion for the titers...i went to texas medclinic here in austin. i know they have quite a few in san antonio, and they accepted my insurance. they were kinda fuzzy on it being for nursing school, but if you don't mention that's what it's for, then it won't be a problem.
Hi Keili (and everyone else)
The only holds that we have to worry about are the background checks, immunizations and the orientation. Once these are fulfilled, you can register. I am assuming that the orientation is the student web orientation, as the SON orientation is not until Jan 5th. This gives you until January 5th to find a solution to any health insurance issue. If you get that job by Dec 1st, you should be fine on the insurance, but I would not suggest pushing it that close to the wire. Good luck.

Hi Kelli,
I am a current student and just wanted to let you know that it is not competitive regarding registration. I was worried about registering early too due to my past undergrad registration experiences and classess filling up fast, but there are eough spots for everyone so don't worry at all. The only class we were able to choose and that fills up was 3305 (clinical). There will still be enough spots for everyone, but if you are wanting a particular hospital, time, day, or instructor this is the only class that I would suggest registering for as early as possible, but if you aren't picky than I wouldn't worry. Also, you should be able to register without proof of insurance. If you don't have your insurance in time they will just make you sign a form stating you don't have insurance and they will add the school insurance to your tuition bill (about $450) for the spring semester. Once you have proof you will just need to take it in and they will drop the charge. Hope this helps and hang in there because this process can be stressful, but is worth it :-)
Hi All
I was reading over the email we received yesterday about registration and holds and realized (sometimes it takes a freight train to get through my skull) that most of the holds should clear up on their own. I am referring to the background check and the web orientation holds. So, if we are doing as we should, the only thing we need to send them is the immunization form. But, as the ever cautious, better safe than sorry type, it doesn't hurt to verify that the holds are gone before registration.

Hi All,
I am wondering if any of you are wanting to live in the apartment and needs a roommate for 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment for Spring 2011 when we start nursing program? Let me know if any of you is interested, and you can email me at [email protected]. Thanks so much!
Hi All
When I turned in my immunization form today, they told me my records would remain on hold until I filled out the Health Insurance form. So, I filled it out, made a copy of my insurance card and turned it all in. I did ask about those who are without insurance and those currently without, but planning to have insurance before the semester begins. The response was that everyone needs to fill out the form to remove the hold. If you do not have insurance, just check the "bill me" box. If you get insurance before the semester begins, just fill out a new form and the charge for insurance will be removed. You need to provide a photocopy of your insurance card with the form for those who have insurance.

Well, registering for classes was easy enough. Maybe I should go back and double check to make sure I didn't goof it up. Anyone else registered today? What Clinicals are you interested in taking? I signed up for Wednesday morning at St Luke's. Now, I can do the HIPPA thing. Wanted to get everything else finished before starting that.

Hi All
The Student Health Center at UTHSCSA does offer immunizations and TB testing, but payment is due up front.
