hello all,
guess i'll get our thread started. i've watched these over the last few semesters, and it's a great way to share information and get to know each other.
i applied earlier this month, and got an e-mail this evening letting me know that i am eligible regarding my prerequisites. i was surprised to get something back so quickly since the deadline is july 1. anyway, that's the first step in the process...a long, long process. :) hopefully, there will be plenty of us on here to keep each other company.
look forward to getting through this process with you.
I believe some of you are going to be attending UTHSCSA from cities farther away than San Antonio. I live in a house just outside of San Antonio that has 2 empty bedrooms. Maybe someone from this board would like to rent out a room and we could carpool to school. It would be all bills paid, unless utilities become unreasonable. I have cable (with showtime), internet (wifi) and the usually A/C and hot water. :-) My 82 (soon to be 83) year old mother and my 11 year old daughter are the only other people people who live with me. I can offer a room with a private bath as well. (But I need to move out of it first)

congratulations on getting in!!
i am a first semester student and remember how nervous i was the few months before starting school. one suggestion: sign up for your parking pass as soon as possible. most likely you will be stuck parking in lot 17, zone 5 (which isn't on campus) and have to take the shuttle. it's a pretty long wait list for zone 4 and 3! we are the first semester under a new curriculum so the faculty have been trying to figure things out. enjoy your free time while you have it now!! because once you start, it's very limited! if you have any questions my e-mail is [email protected] and again welcome and congratulations!!!
Hello! And Congratulations to everyone as well. My name is Jasmine and I was also accepted for the Spring 2011 traditional track! WooHoo!!! I'm still really excited about everything and can't wait to start!!! I've already turned all things in and can't wait to sign up for classes. Hey, do any of yall know if registration is November 1st or earlier? I've tried to sign up but inside.uthscsa won't let me. So I called the registrar's office and they told me to wait until November 1st. Just making sure yall got that information too.. Well congrats again everyone and I look forward to meeting all of you :)
Hello y'all!
Congratulations to all of you for getting into UTHSCSA SON! I am really excited about it and to look forward to get to know you and everyone else who will be in our classes.
I am wondering if any of you are planning to live in an apartment and needs a roommate? It's because I have looked at some of the closest apartments around the health science center, and I found a good one, which is very close to the health science center. It's called Broadstone on Medical, and its address is 4900 Medical Drive. If you're needing a roommate and wanting to live in an apartment, you could let me know about it if you want? This apartment is like 10-15 minutes walking distance from the campus, so it'll be nice to just walk to classes and not have to drive and park in the parking lot where you need to buy a permit. Also, it has good rent prices because the 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apt costs about $860 per month, and if you share with a roommate, then each of you would only pay about $430 each per month, which is a pretty good price. The complex also has single bedroom apartments but they costs about between $619-$692, depending on the square feet size of the apartment. Every apartment in the complex has good sized living room, dining room, kitchen, washer/dryer, and a balcony. Let me know if you are wanting to live in the apartment and would like to consider in sharing the 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apt with me?
Thanks y'all!

I am not sure how to help you as I have had the same job for almost 20 years, but I have some suggestions which may be of benefit.
First, see if you have evidence of previous immunizations. If you have none of the Hep B series, go with the Hep A&B series which can be finished in about 6 weeks, though you will need a booster in about 1 year. The Department of Health in your city should be able to give you some of the immunizations. If you are in San Antonio, that would be Metro Health and you can try the University Health System (CareLink). Maybe UTHSCSA Student Health Center can immunize you. I went with the titer as it is easy and I could avoid all the needles. But if I did not have insurance, I may have just gotten all the immunizations as the lab work may have been more costly. My lab bill was 225.00, but I only had to pay my co-pay. HEB will immunize adults without a prescription in their pharmacy. (That is where I got my Hep B, TdaP and MMR done.) They did ask why I wanted the Hep B, but was happy that I was applying to the Nursing schools.
Can you get COBRA, or is it too late or costly?
I think your best bet may be CareLink or your local equivalent. That way you can make payments on your appts.

Hope this helps.
