  1. finally finished my classes. pulled a B in physiology...not too bad. went ahead and requested my transcript to be mailed when grades post. don't forget to do that y'all. for those of you taking finals this week and next, good luck!
  2. i am only going to buy the books on the list that they sent us. i think we will get some clarification at orientation and during the first week of classes as to what we will need exactly. to be honest, i am buying earlier editions of the textbooks when i can find them. it may bite me in the butt later, but when i can buy a book for $10 that costs $65 for the newest edition, i will try it. most of them are through amazon. if you're worried about waiting till classes start, most of the books i have ordered through amazon (even used) qualify for prime shipping (2-day). as students, we can sign up for free prime shipping (student account). it adds a little peace of mind for those stressing out about not getting books in time, and also helps save money on shipping (which adds up if you figure at least $4 per book).
  3. yes. under student administration, self service, then student center. it is under the finances heading.
  4. not sure if anyone else has found it, but i was poking around, and i found that i could set up direct deposit for financial aid. it's toward the bottom of the page when you log into the account page. maybe it's just me, but i never really noticed it before. sure will make it easier to get that money after tuition and fees are paid. :)
  5. sorry guys...i'm a dork, i know, but fundamentals of nursing is on amazon.com for $52.98 shipped. this is half the price of the bookstore. you might want to jump on this one if you can.
  6. while checking things out on amazon.com, i noticed that they have an amazon student membership that includes free prime shipping for one year. prime shipping is two day shipping, so you get your stuff pretty quick. this will come in handy not only for books, but also for your holiday shopping. very nice!
  7. something to keep in mind. i know that they are going to electronic textbooks in the fall. i asked if we would be able to do the same, and we will have that option. not sure exactly how it will work, but i would really like to not have to lug books around.
  8. i put together the list of books in a little bit different format to help with shopping. i went ahead and priced the books through the school bookstore online and also checked amazon. there are a couple of extra columns for your own comparison shopping. hope it helps. if you see any errors or have anything to contribute, let me know. sorry i couldn't post it in editable spreadsheet format...it would only let me do .pdf. if you want a spreadsheet copy, send me a private message, and i can e-mail it to you. i for one will have to wait for my loans to come in before i can start buying. anyway...happy shopping. :) SONBookList.pdf
  9. if you go back and look over other UTHSCSA threads, some then-current students give a little insight into which books you actually need.
  10. @friendly...thanks for the info. guess i will go ahead and take all that is offered then. i am usually over eager and try to do too much and had planned on working full time while going to school. over the last few days, i have come to realize that is not very realistic. so...i will really need to depend on whatever loans, scholarships, etc. i get. the next thing i'm trying to check off my list is parking. can you give me a little heads up on how that's working for ya?
  11. has anyone tried to buy a parking permit online? i go through the process, but it doesn't process my card. i tried two cards, and neither would work. any ideas?
  12. yes, i saw that financial aid was awarded today. i called to ask about the scholarships was told that it will be a while before they are awarded. i am going to wait to see if i get any scholarships before i accept my loans. half of them are unsubsidized, and i would rather not have to use them if i can avoid it. as for labs, i'm not sure when they will be assigned. maybe they will assign them during orientation.
  13. anyone know when we should find out about financial aid and scholarships?
  14. i just finished registering. my clinicals will be at university hospital on wed from 630-130. now just waiting to see how financial aid will turn out.
  15. yes, i confirmed that with debra koehne. she said we can register, but if we don't have the hold removed before classes start, we will just be enrolled in the school-offered insurance and billed for it in our fees. hopefully, i will have something in line by then.
