hello all,
guess i'll get our thread started. i've watched these over the last few semesters, and it's a great way to share information and get to know each other.
i applied earlier this month, and got an e-mail this evening letting me know that i am eligible regarding my prerequisites. i was surprised to get something back so quickly since the deadline is july 1. anyway, that's the first step in the process...a long, long process. :) hopefully, there will be plenty of us on here to keep each other company.
look forward to getting through this process with you.
Okay
I got the 411 on the immunizations.
Hep B: If you have the exact dates of your 3 vaccinations of hep b, you do NOT need a titer. You will need a titer if you do not know the day, month and year of all your hep b vaccinations.
Measles/MMR: If you have a titer proving immunity to the measles, you only need 1 shot of the MMR. If you do not have a titer, you will need TWO vaccinations for the measles, usually only provided in a MMR. While the standard recommendation for the measles/MMR is 1 vaccination for those born after 1957 (which happens to include yours truly), the recommendation for healthcare professionals is TWO. Those born before 1957 are recommended to get two measles, I do not know if healthcare professionals born before 1957 are expected to get more than 2 vaccines. I hope not. As for the Mumps and Rubella portion of the MMR, if your getting the vaccine for the measles, you will be covered, otherwise just do it..... once.
TdaP/Td: I would suggest just getting the TdaP as everyone needs at least one booster of it and it prevents any problems later. Once we are out of school we can just get the Td.
Chicken Pox: If you had it as a kid, and can show documentation of illness with dates from a healthcare provider or if you can get a titer done, you can skip this one. Even if it was over 40 years ago, like myself. Otherwise, you will need two vaccines at least 30 days apart.
TB: I would just get a TB test and show the documentation to the school. Do this early as some weird strains of TB have been showing up due to poor health care in some countries. If the test is positive, you are going to want time to prove you do not have it.
Okay, vaccination issues dealt with.
NEXT!.......

Hi All
In spite of not having time to study, I started my TB test today. Will get my pass or fail grade on Wednesday. I got my lab slips as well for the titers.
Still no word back on my background check.
Heavy sigh!
Insurance is not a problem, still working on my essay.
How is everyone else doing?

Hi Katya
I am currently not taking any classes. I was being silly and acting as if my tuberculosis (TB) immunity test (to check if I have or have been exposed to tubercles bacillus) was a test for a class. I have finished all the prereqs for the nursing program. All I am doing now is working to make sure I have my insurance for my second yr of school (I have already earned my 1st yr insurance benefits-- as long as I do not lose my job.) And trying to figure out how I am going to pull this off financially. I haven't gotten child support in about 7.5 yrs, am the sole wage earner for my family, etc. Chemistry II as a flex class? You are brave. Where are you taking your classes? Is this your only class?
Tori
Oh wow, even without classes you still have a really full plate. I am taking Chem. 2 at Lackland AFB through Alamo Colleges. I am currently enrolled in 13 hours too, but these current classes are not for my pre-reqs, only to remain as a full time student status. Where did you take Chem 2 at?

Good News, the turn over time for the background check is really fast :) I did my fingerprints at L1 on September 15 and got my clearance from the State Board of Nursing today in the mail. It comes on a blue postcard.
Also, we don't need titers for every injection if we have proof of the injection from our Doctor right?
Thanks for your help its great having the support of fellow students
