Hi All,
Since January 10th was the application deadline, do any of you have an idea as to when the earliest when we will hear from UTHSC-San Antonio? I already have my bachelor's degree in a non-nursing subject but I opted for the 2-year traditional route because the accelerated program just seemed too intense. Are there other 2nd degree folks out there applying to the 2 year program as well? Good luck to you all! I hope we are all there in the Fall!
Hello everyone, its been kind of quiet in here. I have a concern. I took the TEAS and got a 79.8. I am in the Air Force and have to study for my Master Sgt stripe at the same time, so its like I cant seem to seperate the two. I have taken it twice already, (the first time I took it on a whim, without looking at the book, while on Emergency Leave because I didnt know that I could take it overseas at my base for free). when I called to have my score sent to the school, the lady said according the the scores she sees, and the national average, that a 79 is good.. I dont think so compared to everyone getting 80's. But I dont know if I should take it a 3rd time. I know we have to have the results there by the 18th, and today is the 13th.. any advice? Does anyone know of anyone getting in to UTHSCSA nursing school with a 3.6 GPA and a 79 TEAS? (I could kick myself cause i know I can do better, but I am trying to make my promotion as well.. )
I think your GPA is really good though. I can't wait to find out.
I just got a job at the Austin State Hospital as a Psychiatric Nurse Aide, and I found out the same day I was accepted at Texas State School of Nursing. I need to let them know if I accept their offer by the 25th--so I hope they let me know about here by then, but honestly I am probably going to go to Texas State because it will be closer to my work.
I took my test for MSgt yesterday.. my brain still hurts! I tried to get my First Sgt to push my test date back because we were on emergency leave for so long.. and also I knew I had to find a few minutes to try to study for the TEAS, but it didnt happen.. I really considered retaking it, but I got volun-told to go do training for the rest of the week, all day long.. My only opportunity would be to retake it on Friday, but I just dont have the time this week to try to study anymore.. hope it all works out!!
Congrats to you banana!! Thats great news! Is that in San Marcos? I thought about applying there, but my A&P was not within the last 5 years and I was not going to retake it!! lol.
Hello Nicole. I think we should start seeing more chatting on here now that we are coming up on deadline. I think I did well on the TEAS with an 89 but my GPA may not be as strong as others. It is hard to make straight A's with my home load. Does anyone call you Nikki? My name is Nicole also:D
Hi my name is actually Tiffany, my middle name is Nicole. You did great on the teas test, Im taking it again tomorrow because I didn't like my score the first time I took it, but my GPA isn't as high as others either, I completely understand what you mean when you say that you have a home load as I have a 17 month old myself.

UTHSCSA has about a 25% acceptance rate for the school of nursing so if they are taking about 130 for your semester, then you can expect that there are about 500 applicants. Most of these aren't competition because of they didn't fill out all the paperwork or don't have a high enough gpa or haven't completed the appropriate prereqs
They weigh your gpa in 3 areas - overall, science prereqs, all prereqs. I believe the the science prereq gpa has the highest influence. I also think if you have a 3.0+ you're likely to get invited to take the TEAS and that will have the most significant effect on whether you are accepted or not. A friend of mine had a 3.2 and scored a 76ish on the TEAS and was waitlisted, but eventually accepted. This was for spring though, which is generally less competitive than the fall semester.
It was my understanding that the part time program was eliminated. It might have only affected my semester because of the curriculum change, so I'm not sure on this. If part time is still allowed, it'll take you roughly 4 years before you graduate. It might be more valuable to your time to attempt to get more family support or perhaps take out a few loans if money is an issue.
