UTHSCSA-Fall 2011

Published

Hi All,

Since January 10th was the application deadline, do any of you have an idea as to when the earliest when we will hear from UTHSC-San Antonio? I already have my bachelor's degree in a non-nursing subject but I opted for the 2-year traditional route because the accelerated program just seemed too intense. Are there other 2nd degree folks out there applying to the 2 year program as well? Good luck to you all! I hope we are all there in the Fall!

Does anyone know how many people actually applied?

I just forwarded my scores and found out that the last two semesters the average TEAS score for those admitted was 84%--so that means anything above an 80% is competetive--and even better over 84%. So good luck everyone that has not taken the test.

My advice is to study the science and math the most. I think the english was the easiest. Definitely go over A&P terms and some Chemistry.

And now the most important wait begins!!!!

I received my TEAS invite yesterday along with my Transcript Eval and I just forwarded my TEAS scores! Let the waiting begin...

Also, just curious, what GPA would you consider 'competitive' and what would you consider just 'okay'??

They say competitive is anything above a 3.0. However fall of 2010 had an avg gpa of 3.6. I think anything close to that is extremely competitive. I also forgot to mention that the TEAS score has a 59% weight overall. I think it all comes down to the current applicant pool.

So I got an email this morning that said my application was incomplete.. I was crushed.. I figured the one transcript that I was worried about didnt make it there on time.. so out of curiosity, I emailed back to see what happened, and they said that they only received 2 of my transcripts (Ive gone to a couple different schools so I had several to send). When I looked at the list of the ones they said they didnt received, I was like "Okay, something isnt right, because I had these sent in December and I verified that they were sent".. So I called and turns out, that those transcripts had my maiden name on there, so they got put in a seperate file.. Long story short, she was able to merge my application with the transcripts received under my maiden name, and it is considered complete for evaluation, which might take a couple of days becaus they are still reviewing applications as we speak.. so Im just waiting on word on whether I get a TEAS invite!! *crossing my fingers*

Wow. How crazy! It's a good thing you inquired about and didn't just leave it that. Let's all hope perseverance pays off.

I hope so.. I got my transcript eval back.. and my GPA was just shy of a 3.6. hope thats competitive enough.. And I only have one more class to finish, Developmental Psych. I know I keep seeing different info about GPA's so Im nervous, but does anyone have the scoop about that (whats considered competitive)? I hope I hear something in the next few days.

When I went to the open house last spring they said if you have around a 3.5 GPA and score in the mid 80's on the TEAS - you have a competitive package. So if you have a 3.6 that is a pretty good GPA....I have a little lower than a 3.5 so I am worried! Everyone seems to have such high GPAs!

I have the study guide for the TEAs, but did anyone order the online practice tests? I was just wondering how they are, I noticed there is a practive version A and B.

Hi all,

Just wanted to stop by and say "good luck" on the admission process. I was in your position in Fall 2010. Just like one of my upperclassman said if ya'll have any questions feel free to ask.

PS. I just wanted to add that I'm in the second semester of the traditional program and that the schedule for 2nd and third semester will be different than what they posted (we are the lab rats for the new program).

This semester we are taking OB (childbearing and families) at the same time as 3rd semester with the exception that ours is all semester. We are also taking Psyc and Mental Health (lecture and clinical rotation), pathophysiology, and nursing research.

I guess they finally reviewed my application and I got my invite to take the TEAS test. I was a little worried about how I would take this test while stationed in Germany, but ironically, Im in the states, (Texas) for emergency leave and will be here for at least another week or two. So I guess I will go ahead and get mine scheduled ASAP!.. So excited!!!!:D

Does anybody know any students who are part time and can say what the schedule is like? I'm afraid a full time schedule might be too much. I'm a stay at home mom of two children with a husband and family who can't help me much. Just wondering. Thank you!
