UTHSC Traditional BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

Published

I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!

Do y'all mind me asking what everyone's stats are??

HESI: 88.4

Critical Thinking: 940

Science GPA: 3.0

Overall GPA: 3.2

Yeah, I know my academic numbers aren't that great. I'm hoping my HESI scores will make up for it! Thanks for asking by the way, I'm REALLY curious at how everyone else is doing.

My HESI overall: 92

Critical thinking: 820

And as long as I make an A in chemistry this summer (Lord willing),

Nursing GPA: 3.82

science GPA: 4.0

I'm afraid my critical thinking score is gonna bring my application down:( I was already so tired of that test by the time I got there I just blew through the questions. It's good to have support y'all!!:)

OH and ill take chemistry this summer 2 session, and then this fall I have A&P 2, developmental psych, stats, and nutrition. I'm at UTA! Where is everyone else located??

I've seen some people reporting that they got accepted with similar scores as you from the previous semester and spring. Not only that, your critical thinking was better too! I think your HESI scores, especially the critical thinking will stand you out!

Good luck! =)

Finishing up my last few courses at HCC!

@meganelaine

I hope I can steamroll through the questions when I take my HESI and get at least a 92 overall a 820 on the CT like you did! Your overall stats are still very competitive.

Thanks for the encouragement! And congrats on your 4.0 that's hard to do!!

I hope you're right! I am finishing up my pre-req's of Chemistry, Hist 2, and Psych Stats this fall. Hopefully I can pull an A in all three. Good luck on your HESI!! I'm sure you will do great! Your GPA's will probably do the trick for you!

Took my Hesi today. Here are my numbers:

HESI - 84

Critical thinking - 830

Science GPA - 3.7

Nursing pre req - 3.6

Not too happy with my HESI. Thinking of taking it over. Blah!!

I think your scores are still competitive! What section did you think was the most difficult?

Honestly, I didn't think any section was TOO difficult but my worst one was math. I think I just freak out with ANYTHING to do with math and that's probably the ONLY reason I didn't do as well on that portion.

I took my HESI yesterday!!!

Reading Comp - 96

Math - 100

Vocabulary - 100

Grammar - 98

Anatomy - 100

Critical Thinking - 910

I was happy with my scores, and I studied A LOT!!! There were even questions on the test that I would have gotten wrong if I didn't study up until the minute when I walked into the testing center (well actually I sat on the floor near the lockers going through vocabulary flash cards!).

Advice:

- Study the vocabulary flash cards on quizlet! There were a few many words on the test that came off of that list. It is very much worth it to memorize.

- Math: lots of fractions, ratios, percents.

- Anatomy: I used Barron's EZ Anatomy and Physiology to study. It's a big book, but easy to understand and lots of practice.

HOWEVER, Elsevier messed up and gave me the retest instead of the original. I'm in the process of figuring out what to do now!!!

Those scores are flippin' awesome!!! I'm sure you'll have no problem getting accepted! :-)
