UTHSC Traditional BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

Published

I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!

Holy wow! Congrats on your scores!! They're probably already stamping your acceptance letter ;)

You guys are TOO KIND. Seriously though, I did submit my application, but it was for summer, not for spring. I want to apply for Spring, but I think that because of my job, I won't be able to enter until summer, so looks like I won't be with you guys... :(

I just finished applying this week, I took my HESI test on June 27th. Right now I have a green circle that tells me complete. My Scores for my HESI test were as follows:

Overall: 90.29%

Overall w/o Chem: 89.3%

Reading: 90%

Grammar: 94%

Vocabulary: 86%

Biology: 92%

Chemistry: 96%

A & P: 80 %

Math: 94%

CT: 860

Overall GPA: 3.918

Science GPA: 4.0

Other Pre Req: 3.86

I am hoping that these scores are good enough.

I took the HESI the same day. My application status still shows that my HESI scores need to be submitted. On my HESI score report it reflects that my scores will go to "UT Health Science Center - Houston - BSN DIstance Test". I guess I'll give them a call on Monday. This is very discouraging. Has anyone else had a problem with their scores being sent over?

Mine still show as "initiated" on my to-do list. I took mine June 9th. I'll shoot them an email tomorrow & let you guys know what they say.

Thanks! That's what mine says too!

Just give them a call! One day I called and asked a question about something not about the hesi and she was like "let me go ahead and update all your info". At that time I had taken the hesi but it was still on my to do list and I was thinking it might take them awhile to enter it in, but as soon as I got off the phone with her all my to do's were instantly taken care of and I got sent a transcript eval nothing after that. I'd just call! It seems to be the fastest way to reach them.

*arobbins2020 - Thats interesting to know, that you took the test on the same day. I hope they update your status here soon. I don't know how they go about updating, the information, but it can be very nerve racking.....

I'm applying for the Accelerated BSN Program in the Summer. I know this is for traditional, but it's the most relevant discussion for this school that I have come across. I have to deal with a lawyer before I can be comfortable about my application; however, as it stands:

I have a BS - Biology 2010 w/ Spanish Minor

HESI:

94.86% total

95.2% for UTHSC requirements

100 reading, 94 grammar, 94 vocab, 92 biology, 96 chemistry, 92 a&p, 96 math, 900 critical thinking.

3.68 gpa with a few courses other pre-requisites to complete

Where else are you guys/gals applying to? I moved to Houston this year and I have no idea where to start.

** I took all the sections on the HESI (Chemistry, bio, etc.) with the exception of Physics. Should I have not taken all of these?

Also, I need to call them as well because my current status on the UTH website is "Initiated" for everything.

Does anyone know if they require fingerprints and the background check to be completed prior to receiving notification of acceptance?

I know this is the case with HCC, which I also applied to and took the TEAS (95th percentile national, 99th for institution...not relevant here, but whatever).

A friend of mine that is also applying for Spring 2014 took the HESI the same time I did. She called this morning and spoke with Brandy. Brandy said that they have received many scores but the system hasn't been updated to reflect on the applicants To Do list. So, if it shows initiated, they have the scores but it just hasn't been updated. The background check and fingerprints are not required until you have been accepted into the program. Make sure that your immunizations are up to date. The Hep-B takes a few months. Also, your CPR needs to be completed by the start date. CPR, if take through the American Heart Association, is good for two years.

We are thinking about going to the next info session, August 1st at 1:30, to make sure nothing has changed and to ask any questions. We went a year ago and it gets packed quick! We were 30 minutes early and there was a long line.

Good Luck!!

The only science required on the HESI is A&P. If you are planning on applying at more than one school, it's good that you took all of them. I've noticed that other schools require biology and chemistry.

You have great scores, by the way!!

I'm sure you will get in on your first try.

I have a friend that went the Fast Track route...I guess it's called the Accelerated program. It's very gruelling but she did well and now works at MD Anderson on the Terminally Ill unit.

Good Luck! I'm sure you will do great!!
