Hello everyone:D
I have seen various threads for previous applicants that applied to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I was not able to find a thread for UTHSC Fall 2016 applicants so I decided to start one. If a thread already exists, I am sorry. I will also be applying to TWU-Houston and UTMB. I know the process is stressful, so I will try to make it easier. I will be attending the May 22 info session at UT and the May 28 one at TWU. I will be sure to update any information discussed in the sessions for those who are not able to attend. If there are any previous applicants, or current and previous students, I would appreciate if you could join and share your experience in the school as well as your application process.
I look forward to talking to everyone who is going through this nursing journey.:)
I copied this from the website. You need, at minimum, 2.75 GPA or higher in the required 60 hours of nursing prerequisites and 3.0 or higher in the required science prerequisites, and yes if you repeat a class they take the highest grade. If you attend an informational session, they tell you that to be competitive you need at least a 3.50 GPA and mid 800s on the HESI. I hope this helps.
Hey y'all I'm on vaca so here's a few quick answers--
1. They don't do overall GPA. Only what they specifically list (just the pre-reqs for the program I think) I'm sure y'all have seen the list. That is no lie that they do not look at overall GPA. And believe me, you are good enough-- my GPA in the pre-reqs was 3.8 with 4.0 GPA in the sciences, but I have 4 Fs on my academic record and my overall in all my attempted college hours was like 2.something.
About the vaccines and such-- I didn't do any of that stuff until I found out I was accepted but it really sucked and I was super stressed and busy with it for like 2 weeks straight getting all my shots, titers, records, etc.
i would recommend getting all the immunization requirements in order as soon as you can for peace of mind. The background check & drug test don't happen until you've been accepted, they will give you instructions after you've been accepted.
To the person who asked specifically about hep B- I know this first hand cause my titers were negative & I had to do the whole series: proof of your first shot, showing that you've started the series, is enough to start school. Make sure you get the 2nd & 3rd shots on time & submit that proof when it comes time, cause they watch it & will put another immunizations hold on your account 6 mo later. After the series is finished, they'll also require another lab test proving positive titer.
Hi all, I'm a little confused or may be overthinking but would some please help me understand the application and start periods for UT? I received an email today with a reminder that Fall Application period deadline is Jan 15. Does this mean if accepted, your start month will be August 2017?
That's really weird... I thought the January application deadline was for the upcoming summer. And why would they send you an email about January? As far as I know, the time table listed on their website is still correct. Here's a screen shot:

Hi! Do you mind letting me know if they take the overall gpa or just the gpa on the courses they have listed on the website?
