UTHSC Traditional BSN Fall 2016 Applicants

Published

Hello everyone:D

I have seen various threads for previous applicants that applied to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I was not able to find a thread for UTHSC Fall 2016 applicants so I decided to start one. If a thread already exists, I am sorry. I will also be applying to TWU-Houston and UTMB. I know the process is stressful, so I will try to make it easier. I will be attending the May 22 info session at UT and the May 28 one at TWU. I will be sure to update any information discussed in the sessions for those who are not able to attend. If there are any previous applicants, or current and previous students, I would appreciate if you could join and share your experience in the school as well as your application process.

I look forward to talking to everyone who is going through this nursing journey.:)

Thanks so much for that great advice on retaking the class over summer. I can't think straight lately. Sorry for taking so long to respond. My life is inside my chem book right now lol.

@futurernvalerie Make sure to join the TWU Facebook group if you want.

TWU-Houston School of Nursing Class of 2018!

For everyone else who got into UTHSC Houston there is a group for y'all too. I think the below is it.

UTHealth Nursing Class of Fall 2017

I actually wanted to know the same thing. I am interested about this too. Was wondering how we could get more information or who we could talk to?

Student housing is cheap but they have a wait list (I heard if you go in person near the end of the semester it's better-our semester is over may 5 btw). A lot of student live at parque view, it's right by student housing and the bus stop & cheap. Basically, you have to look for an apartment yourself. The school doesn't really have any student apartments or anything of that nature. Feel free to message me with any questions, I'm a current student!

I tried messaging you but it won't let me. Any other way I can contact you, I'm really interested in housing for this up coming semester. I was looking at the UT housing and although I found the prices alright.. many told me they over price. How could I get more information about the parque view housing.

Any advice on the Hesi ? I'm taking bio, Chem , and math

I need help with the Hesi exam[emoji29][emoji120]🏻

Anyone know when our semester starts?

Tyner

As far as the HESI goes, I took it twice because I got a 72 in the A&P section and then a 92 or 94 (I forget) the second time around.

I studied cellular respiration, bones and their locations, hormones, and the different body systems. It's hard to say what to study for when it comes to the A & P section because it literally could be anything. I will say that those topics helped a lot on my second try. The HESI study guide is ok for A&P but doesn't go in enough depth. It helped jog my memory so I could go through my own notes for greater depth.

The HESI study guide is great for the vocabulary section. So is the grammar part. For the math, just keep going through the practice problems in the book until you are comfortable with it. I don't know about the chemistry portion because I didn't take it for this school.

People often fear the critical thinking part because they don't know what to expect. Just breath and think about what is most important in the question. I can't give any details except that it is just using common sense which can be hard without nurse training. Just think it through carefully and choose the best answer.

Good luck to you.

Thank you so much! You know anything about biology ? I don't have to take A&P.

I did take that section the first time just to see what they ask. Study plant cell division, cellular respiration, anaerobic respiration, etc. I don't remember much more than that. The best thing to do is use the study guide for the biology part and dig up your own notes on things that you need to go in greater depth. Same advice I have for A&P portion of the test. Oh, also plant and animal cell organelles, mitosis, and meiosis.

Tcanon, I am looking for housing too! I would like to find a roommate. I am currently a student at Texas A&M, and I was accepted into the UT Houston Fall 2016 BSN pacesetter program. If you would like to message me, message me through facebook. My name is Kaylea Fajkus:)

Just got an email saying to check my status so I got really excited, but when I logged in everything was the same. I guess they accidentally sent me a 2nd one for my summer denial....
