Hi everyone, I just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON students who are applying for Summer 2017. I didn't see a thread created for this term yet. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin this long journey. Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!
Where did you go for scholarships?
I applied for a schloarship from UTH when I applied for admissions. Also when I did my Fasfa in October I added UTH as a school. I don't know when or if I should contact financial aid yet.Do we for sure need titers? I got adult immunizations so they're very recent.

We need the titers. The titers are to ensure we are immune from the disease.
I got titers done at my doctor's office a few months ago. They were fully covered by insurance, so I would try that route before paying out of pocket.
As far as financial aid, I applied for scholarships when I applied for Spring, so I guess that means I'll have to do it over? Not sure... We have a lot to get together in these next three months!
Hey everyone! I was accepted yesterday into UT Health's summer program and was wondering if there's anyone on here that currently attends UT Health and if so,
How do you like the program?
Has it been difficult?
Do you have time on the weekend to relax or are you constantly studying?
Is there anything you don't like about the program?
How is your schedule like?
Does UT Health record lectures? I've heard A&M does & I think that's really helpful.
Are there any online classes or are they all face to face?
Do you have any advice for new nursing students?
Sorry for all the questions! I just thought it'd be helpful to hear insight from other people before I choose a school.
Hi guys! I got accepted into the Summer 2017 program as well. My last name starts with Y and I got the email around 10:30ish Friday morning. So excitedddd and so very very grateful!! ^^
My stats (completed):
⇢ Overall GPA: 3.89
⇢ Science GPA: 3.75
⇢ HESI score: 94%
On this website, I've seen a good amount of people worrying/wondering if UTH checks if you are working or if matters that your classes were done in a community college. If it makes anyone feel better, I don't have a prior degree, I don't work, and all my prereqs were completed in a community college. I was also rejected for Spring but applied again for Summer and Fall. So to those of you stressed out about results, please hang in there and don't give up! If you haven't already, I suggest you apply for Fall too. Good luck! (:

Has it been difficult? So far... its been tough but which nursing school isn't? UTH is great because you have the best support system by your professors, class, and upperclassmen.
Do you have time on the weekend to relax or are you constantly studying? Well, you have to really see it that nursing school (no matter where you go), you will always be studying but yes I do have time for myself but you have to be a really great time planner.
Is there anything you don't like about the program? I honestly haven't found any negative things about UTH.
How is your schedule like? Im a J1 so my schedule is monday-thursday. Depends on which lab you have because you will only be split for labs/clinicals.
Monday= 8-12 and 1:45-3:45 (because i have the last lab but im forced to study so i love it)
Tuesday= 8-12
Wednesday= 9-12 and 1-4
Thursday= clinicals, which is 6:30-4:30
Does UT Health record lectures? I've heard A&M does & I think that's really helpful. Just for the first semester. They expect you to be able to handle classes without recordings for the upcoming semesters, which honestly it does suck but it does force everyone to come to class.
Are there any online classes or are they all face to face? face-face that I know of, i know j2 semester we have one online class.
Do you have any advice for new nursing students? YES! GET ALL YOUR TITERS DONE, THERES TWO DIFFERENT SHEETS OF WHAT YOU NEED TO GET DONE (TITERS, IMMUNIZATIONS, ETC) THEY'RE VERY VERY SIMILAR BUT THERES LIKE A TWEAK SO JUST MAKE SURE YOURE CHECKING. New Students - Current Student - The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Nursing THIS LINK, I POSTED IT. ONE OF THE IMMUNIZATIONS IS "SON REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS" AND THE SECOND ONE IS "UTHEALTH STUDENT REQUIRED IMMUNIZATION"
THE LINK I POSTED THERE ARE THE STEPS NEEDED FOR YOU TO OFFICIALLY BE A UTH STUDENT, IT GOES BY STEPS SO DONT JUMP TO STEP 8 WITHOUT DOING THE ONES BEFORE
advice will continue to be given but as of now, this is the only advice you need.
Sorry for all the questions! I just thought it'd be helpful to hear insight from other people before I choose a school.
hopethishelps
oh and when you see E-VALUE. Sharron will send you your login about 2 weeks after you get accepted :) this is where you will be uploading your immunization records, BLS, etc.
criminal background and drug screening will be uploaded by the place you get it done. The ONLY place you can get each one done is on the link I provided. The criminal background (no need for fingerprinting), they just check records. Drug screening (you'll need to go somewhere, which the school itself UTH sets up. They set up an appointment for you and date and time) because they do it randomly to make sure you're not preparing for the drug screening

Hey everyone! Congrats to those who have been accepted, and for those that have not heard back yet- don't worry! I believe they sent out acceptances in three waves when I was accepted, so there is still time. I am currently in my first semester at UTHealth. I really do enjoy the program. Everyone handles nursing school differently and some will find it more difficult than others. For me, it isn't THAT bad. You really just have to get used to studying all of the time. I have a son so I have to manage my time well. I typically go to bed right after he does and wake up around 3-4am to study before class. I study in between classes as well, but I rarely study when I get home for the evening. I usually take a day or two (depending on which test we have the following week) off on the weekend just because I don't want to get burned out. You will just have to manage your time well. As of right now, there is nothing that I dislike about the program.
My schedule is Monday-Thursday- Monday is 8am-1:30, Tuesday is 8-12, Wednesday is 9-4, and Thursday I have clinical. Before you guys start clinical you will have a skills lab on Friday from like 8-12 I think? The professors do record all of the lectures for the first semester, but I don't think any of the lectures are recorded after that. As of right now we do not have an online class. I think we will in our second semester. My advice to new students is just try to relax. Just go into nursing school knowing that it is tough and you will probably be studying much more than you have had to in the past, but try not to stress about it! It is really all about managing your time well.
