UTHSC Summer 2017

Published

Hi everyone, I just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON students who are applying for Summer 2017. I didn't see a thread created for this term yet. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin this long journey. Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!

This is one thing I would like to call them and ask about. From other postings I have read, not everyone gets an eval and there has yet to be an established rhyme or reason to why they are or are not done, and if so, when.

Thank you for offering your insight. What were your admission stats? Do you know what the admission stats of any of your classmates looked like?

My Prerequisite and overall GPA including science GPA was a 4.0, and I obtained my associates in arts from HCC prior to applying. HESI was overall 95% with 920 out of 1000 in critical thinking, but I am unsure if they require critical thinking anymore? (This is a MUST HAVE skill to be successful in the program, so I highly recommend reading some critical thinking books/tips if you are unsure that you will do well with it.) I do have healthcare experience as well, and I will tell you that it helps in the program with health assessment and vitals and other things. They do take this into account for admission, but healthcare experience is also not required since they want to give everyone a fair chance if they have good stats. There are some LVNs in the program with me. (I am an EMT). I haven't really asked a lot of people about their stats, so I couldn't tell you for sure about that.

Go to their prerequisite requirements page and figure out which ones you have and which ones will count as your electives. I printed out the prerequisite transfer guide and wrote out my grade for each one and plugged it in using this website. Super easy.

Thanks guys! I've already done that but wasn't sure if it was right since my transcripts only include the letter grade and not like A- A+ etc.

I calculated all of mine using A, B, C. No +/-.

Anybody heard anything yet?

Negative.

If i had to guess, id say next monday would probably be the absolute earliest.

I have not heard anything either. I've read somewhere in the thread that the deadline this year got pushed compared to last year. So if it's true, we could still have another month till we hear anything, since last year first wave heard in early February we could hear late February/ early March. But that's again just my guess.

They adjusted the Summer deadline because they were backlogged on the previous round of applicants for the Spring. They have also made changes to the selection process to streamline it. Nothing would surprise me, however, particularly if the first wave of acceptances started rolling out on Monday.

No, mine still says complete.

That's not true. I went on a tour long before the Spring deadline, and they had already changed the date. They said they saw last year that it was not feasible to have the Summer and Fall deadlines so close together, because they could not inform students of decisions prior to the Fall deadline, so students did not know what to do. The dates were changed to accomodate the calendar so that there was no overlap. We should deffinately have decisions prior to the fall deadline so that we are making informed decisions. So, I would say March 14th at the latest.

Just popping my head in to say hi to everyone and wish y'all good luck! If you are accepted, try to get some rest before classes start....It starts out fast and just keeps getting more intense!

Hey Pappa22v,
