UTHSC Summer 2017

Published

Hi everyone, I just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON students who are applying for Summer 2017. I didn't see a thread created for this term yet. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin this long journey. Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!

My stats aren't that great, but I'm hoping for the best. My biggest concern is my overall GPA, because like a lot of college students I didn't take my first couple years seriously and that was over 20 years ago. I wish we could submit a personal statement to at least explain any issues with our GPA.

My pre-requisite GPA is 3.4 and my science GPA is 3.75.

HESI is 90.8 overall.

Me too. I have a feeling eventually they will end up doing that, especially as the popularity of the program continues to grow. And your stats aren't far off from mine! Good luck to you, my friend!

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone know if they look at your overall GPA as well as prerequisite GPA?

My stats:

overall:3.64

prerequisite: 3.94

science:4.0

HESI: 94 ( they said that they don't look at critical thinking scores anymore)

I am really hoping that my stats will be enough for me to make it in, but their selection process is a complete mystery. I heard some people with average stats get in, and some 4.0s getting rejected. Also, does anyone know if the application status remains incomplete until final transcript for the spring is sent? I am still finishin up a couple of classes now.

Thank you for any information! Best of luck to you all!

From what I understand (and take it with a grain of salt; as you said, its a mystery) overall GPA isnt a contributing factor. I think i read somewhere it has to be at least a 3.0, but it isnt ranked against other students. Just used as a cutoff.

Also, you are correct about how bass-ackwards the selections are. With your stats, you should be a shoe it, but we all know that has been proven false before. As far as your transcript, it will continue to say "incomplete" so long as you are still completing classes listed on the transcript. If you finish those classes and grades are entered, send them an updated transcript and call them. They will look at the new one and update my.uth.

How is everyone figuring out what their prerequisite gpa is?

If you go to their admissions page, all prerequisites are listed under prerequisite information section. Your prerequisite GPA is calculated based on courses listed their only.

Go to their prerequisite requirements page and figure out which ones you have and which ones will count as your electives. I printed out the prerequisite transfer guide and wrote out my grade for each one and plugged it in using this website. Super easy.

Does anyone know when they usually start sending out transcript evaluations?

Do we get notified by email, mail, or phone? I can't remember and I need to know which one to stalk.

Hi guys. I'm currently a student in my first semester at UTHealth SON. I also have a few friends that have gone through the program, so if anyone has any questions about the process of being admitted or the program in general please feel free to ask. Good luck to you all!

This is one thing I would like to call them and ask about. From other postings I have read, not everyone gets an eval and there has yet to be an established rhyme or reason to why they are or are not done, and if so, when.

Thank you for offering your insight. What were your admission stats? Do you know what the admission stats of any of your classmates looked like?

You will be notified by email first that will tell you to log in to your UTHealth account and accept the offer with a $200 seat deposit. (Don't worry you have about 15 days to pay the depsosit, and the money will be automatically be applied towards paying a portion of your tuition after registering for classes). A week or two after you get your acceptance email, you will get your acceptance letter in the mail stating the exact same things that the email did. Acceptances go out in waves, so you may see people getting admitted before you have via email.
