UTHSC Summer 2017

Published

Hi everyone, I just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON students who are applying for Summer 2017. I didn't see a thread created for this term yet. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin this long journey. Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!

Hello Casey! I applied for the spring 2017 semester and submitted another updated transcript after the due date and they remain on my to do list. I called admissions and long story short they only look at transcripts you send before the due date.

I also saw someone mentioning they've been a LVN for years and hoped that would help them get in.. admissions told me that they do not care if you have a degree or not. A degree/certificate is not a requirement to apply therefore they cannot accept one student over another just because one has a degree.

I called the registrar office 01/10 to see if they had receive my updated transcript since it was still in my to do list and they said yes, it was received December 22. It is still in my to do list today. Hope everything goes well with my application. Good luck everyone! The wait officially starts tomorrow :nailbiting:

Today was the day! Application deadline is officially here.

Sincerely wish everyone the best, and even though I may not feel very confident in my chances, it does not deter me from trying.

Hello all!

I am a little late on the forum (well actually REALLY late compared to when it was started lol) but I also applied to UTHealth for Summer 2017! I also will be applying for Fall 2017 here in Houston, and at the UT campus in Austin. My following are my stats!

Overall GPA 3.46

Science GPA 4.0

HESI score overall: 88.6%

I sent my transcripts about two weeks ago before I submitted my complete application. I hope that doe not have an effect on my chances. I am a little bummed there was no requirement to input any experiences, volunteer work, or a personal statement. At the same time I am sure it makes the application process at the basis of their requirements.

Good luck to everyone!!!

See, this makes absolutely no sense to me. No consistency, anywhere in this process. It has been said in other threads, and by word of mouth from a former student that they do look at whether or not you are currently a nurse, have healthcare experience, and what your work history looks like while you were a student (supposedly they take it as an indication that someone who works and goes to school can better handle the heavy workload). Directly from a former student, who asked while she was in the program about those questions on the application and the adviser told her "We wouldnt put it on the application if it didnt matter." She was an LVN and CNA before that.

Good luck everyone, let the waiting game begin!

Yeah I've heard/read the same things. My degree won't show on my transcripts until February and they told me the committee can't count anything that's not on my transcripts. The only reason I took extra classes for my degree was to possibly help me get in, so I called a lot of people to get a letter of conferral stating my degree is in process getting on my transcripts. Well when I called admissions to see if they'd accept it she told me there was really no point turning it in. I drove up there and turned it in still for peace of mind!

On my to-do lists it shows that my HESI A2 Transcripts with the status "initiated". Has anyone else seen this? I sent my transcripts about 2 weeks ago.

Yes, it always says initiated, from the time they post it. It can take a while once they receive them and process them to take it off. Mine was under their school code and it still took a while to process.

Hello everyone,

I thought I should share my stats.

GPA: 4.0

Hesi: 89.6%

Honestly, I feel like I have a 50% chance of getting in. Some applicants with low scores and low GPAs have been admitted while others with high scores and high GPAs have been denied. Do they even thoroughly look at each applicant's application?

@Pappa22v Yes you are absolutely correct, I called and that is what they told me. Thanks!! It took some stress off to know that. I was worried when I saw that after the application deadline.
