UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016

Published

Hey guys, just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON hopefuls who are applying for Spring 2016. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin to play what seems to be the longest waiting game ever! I am more than confident that each and every one of us will be receiving our acceptance letters around this same time next year:) Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!

What's the lowest hesi score that you think they take?

@147nataly From what I know they do not even look at your HESI score if you score below a 75 on the sections and a 750 in CT. So it is hard to say because your GPA has to do with being admitted too. Some people get in with lowish HESI scores and a high GPA. And some get in with a high HESI score and low GPA.

Has anyone gotten a transcript evaluation? I still have not yet so see one. Is it emailed to us or do we have to look for it? Will they still evaluate it even if you are still taking a one or a few more prerequisites?

When I called a few days ago I was told not to worry about the transcript evaluation. And that we will eventually all get it. I got my first one a couple of months ago, but since then I have turned in a new transcript and have yet to receive a new evaluation. Hope this helps.

Bryanv, I highly recommend making sure all your classes were transferred. I would say ask for it and don't wait! I sent them an email a while back asking if one of my classes was going to count as an elective. They answered my question and it even came up that one of my core classes did not show on my electronic transcript. I sent it again, and nothing. So I had to drop off a hard copy and finally got it corrected. Later I received the updated eval showing what I have and what is missing, but if you can get some at least some verbal confirmation then good. Not trying to scare anybody, it's just better to be on the safe side.

@Winemo Thanks for the heads up. Yeah, I agree. Better to be safe than sorry. I've emailed them so many times I feel like a bother, but OH well.

Hi 147nately. Just got back from today information session for the uthsc son. And to kind of answer your question they said that any thing under 75 they recommend that you retake. Anyways, the impression I got was that any sections with a score of under 75 will not be considered. However, I do recall reading from a previous thread that someone did score below a 75 in at least one section and was able to obtain an acceptance. But just so you know at the information session the advisor did suggest at least a score of 80's in each of the required sections.

Hope that helps.

@Spagh3tti Do you know if it hurts us to retake the HESI? I retook mine and did a lot better than the first time.

@Bryan not at all. I had asked a very specific question in regards to your question. I wanted to know whether there was an advantage to just having taken the exam once. The advisor answer was no. So they don't care and will only take in account the higher scoring exam. So if you want to retest by all means go for it. Also, there is no wait period required between retesting. :-) Hope I have answered your question.

Just noticed you have already retested. That is wonderful you were able to score better the 2nd time around. Congrats.

@Spagh3tti Thank you! I went to the info session like 3 months ago and I forgot to ask that question.

Just curious did they ask for hands up for those applying for spring 2016 and if so we're there a lot of hands raised?

The reason I ask is that they asked how many of us here today are applying for spring 2016 and there were less than a dozen hands up.

Anyways, I was hoping that was a good sign and that there will be a smaller group of applicants applying. Maybe. :-)
