UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016

Published

Hey guys, just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON hopefuls who are applying for Spring 2016. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin to play what seems to be the longest waiting game ever! I am more than confident that each and every one of us will be receiving our acceptance letters around this same time next year:) Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!

Hi everyone! I just got back from taking my HESI and I am pretty happy with my stats! Here they are:

-Reading Comprehension: 92%

-Grammar: 92%

-Vocabulary and General Knowledge: 92%

-A&P: 88%

-Math: 100%

-Critical Thinking: 820/1000 (a little bummed about this one, was hoping a little higher)

Also, I don't think I have yet posted my GPA: 3.33 (which also bums me out, you guys GPAs are more than amazing! but hey, I figured why not give UT a shot!)

I have a question, since I am applying to other schools, I took all sections (chem/biology), that's not going to affect me sending the scores to UT right? Also, if I selected UT as the school I was taking the exam through, do they get my scores automatically, or do I need to do something to send them? Also, how do I get them sent to other schools? (I am applying to PV and Lonestar as back-ups)

Thanks you guys, happy to finally be here, it's been quite a journey for me. I got pretty emotional walking out of the testing center today!! :)

@valxoxo7, those are awesome scores!! You're critical thinking score is great, I wouldn't worry too much about it. They won't look at or weigh the sections that aren't needed and you won't need to send your scores to UT since you took the exam through them they will be sent automatically. I tried looking to figure out how to send your scores and the only thing I could find that looks like it may be right would be if you go to the evolve.elsevier.com and log-in, click catalog at the top of the screen and select Hesi Transcripts and then just follow the directions from there! Hopefully this works if not, maybe try calling them and requesting by phone if thats an option.

@jmarg4 thank you so much for your help! You are always so helpful :)

@valxoxo7, No problem, that's what we're here for😊

@valxoxo Those are great scores! CONGRATS!

There has been people who get in with 3.3 GPA. There was a girl at the info session who got in with about your same GPA. She said that she got great HESI scores like you did.

Hey guys! I applied to UTH & PV nursing school in Houston as well. I'm really scared about not getting accepted into either. UTH remains as my #1 choice right now. My current GPA is a 3.3 & sciences I made B's so if I'm not mistaken that would be a 3.0. I did pretty decent on my HESI with a 90% for all sections.

-Critical Thinking 770

-Math 86

-Reading 86

-Grammar 88

-Vocab 90

-A&P-100

Even with my HESI scores not being that bad(besides critical thinking) I feel like my GPA is still not as competitive. I'm really worried. Do you guys know of any other nursing schools accepting HESI that's deadline has not passed for Spring 2016 so I can have more backups?

@gmar_3 I know that Lonestars ADN program is open for applicants right now and they take the HESI as well ☺️

@bryanv, thank you! I really hope they are good enough for UT as its my #1 choice. I feel like I'm definitely on the low end of the scale here, seeing what everyone's stats look like now and on past threads :(

But I'm going to keep my hopes up!

Hi @dehear4 ! - Were you able to get in contact with anybody about your transcript?

@valxoxo7 & @gmar_3 - congrats to you both on your hesi! You both did well!!! I saw on previous threads that some people were getting accepted with 3.3's...and that the spring semester is "less competitive" than the fall! At least you guys were able to apply to other programs as well. I'm only able to apply for UT because they accept 40 crdts minimum...for TWU I would still need Chem & Micro to apply and for PV I'd need at least 45 crdts if I'm not mistaken. I'll be done with all my classes this fall so if I don't get into UT I'll be able to apply for other programs after I'm done.

Quick question though! For those that have gotten transcript evaluations from this program, did anyone test out of a class for credit and got it accepted? I'm thinking of just testing out for a language class to have it count as one of my electives. Any shared experiences are welcomed! :)

UT accepts 40 credits at application time, but don't they require that ALL nursing science prerequisites are complete prior to applying? This might have changed.

  • At least 40 hours of the required 60 hours of prerequisite work; 8 hours, of those 40 hours, must be from the science prerequisites of: Human Anatomy and Physiology , Microbiology, Chemistry.

@shasbus - I definitely see how the wording could be misleading but UT-H is probably the only school that accepts any 2 out of the 4 required sciences to be completed in order to be able to apply :)
