UTHSC Houston - Summer 2016 Applicants

Published

Hey everyone!

I couldn't find a thread for Summer 2016 that was active so I'm starting one here! I am also an applicant for Fall 2016 but I'm applying for both because the deadlines are close and I really want to go here!!

So far I'm taking courses over the summer right now and going to finish my prerequisites this fall. I JUST finished the HESI exam today!!! Hope to hear from all of you soon

Yes!!! I remember your username too. I'm so happy for you!

I would suggest to get immunizations done ASAP with the required list, which you can find online at uth.edu. It helps out a lot towards the start of the semester because you have to constantly call to get things updated and such. And YES, apply for financial aid now!!! I need to do that too for next semester. As for the background check, I would wait for their instructions or call them to see if they have changed the procedure. Look under new student (https://nursing.uth.edu/currstudent/new/) and this page will give you most of the info you need to know. I personally found out most of what my class needed to do by going to the new admit day. OH, and know what titers you need for proof regardless of shot record.

For sure I would: apply for financial aid, complete BLS CPR, Immunizations, health insurance (because school insurance is expensive ~1k/semester), and living arrangements.

The rest you can wait or call UT SON because I'm not sure if y'all have to do anything different.

If didn't answer parts of your question please let me know.

And so far my experience is AWESOME!!! It is definitely hard but TOTALLY doable with dedication. We are about to start clinical so I'm nervous but excited about that. The teachers are great as well especially patho teachers. They have a thing called Senior buddies and that helps a lot. My S1 buddy is so helpful. And there are so many tutoring sessions to go to plus 1 on 1 tutoring. I'm sure you will love it too.

I know what you mean about it hitting you every hour. It probably hit me every minute HAHAHA

I can't find it

Thanks you thank you for all the info!!! I'll be making calls on Monday to start getting all that done! Luckily I already have insurance through my husbands employer so that's one thing checked off the list.

WOW, clinicals already!!! How exciting!!...I'm nervous just thinking about it lol. That is definitely good to know that they offer all that help. I really like the idea that everybody from all semesters are there to help each other out. This will likely be the first time I go for tutoring, I'm sure the material is super challenging but I am soooo ready to do this!! I've been waiting a long time to do this.

littlegray - I can't find the FB page either. Try posting the link on here so we can click on it

Here's the link to the Facebook group. It's "UTHSC-Houston Class of Summer 2017"

Congrats everyone. Get ready for your life to change. It's so much fun but it's a lot of work. Bryan V. Is in my clinical group, YAY. I'm also excited but very nervous as well :)

I'll second what he said about getting all of your immunizations done asap! It seemed to be the biggest hiccup for those that had problems. If I'm not mistaken financial aid doesn't award until all holds are cleared and you register.

You guys will know how lucky you are as soon as you see all of the support you will be getting from everyone around you. It's amazing!

Hi jketron! Thank you for the info as well! Yes I was just telling my husband that that's probably one of the reasons why UT has such good nclex passing records, because it seems they really try to provide as much help as they can. And ya'll have to come back and tell us how clinicals went!

So how does one get accepted into the fb group? Lol...I sent a request but who's supposed to accept it?

Hi Winemo, I approved everyone that sent a request just now :)

How do i find out exactly if I got accepted. All I still see is a green circle next to my admission status for the 2016 summer session.

You will receive an email saying there has been a decision made regarding your application. On your my UTH portal there will be an accept or decline link instead of the green circle or yellow triangle (the status).

Congrats to all who have been accepted and good luck to everyone waiting. I am also a J1 student and like my fellow classmates have stated Nursing school is great, but you must put a lot of work into it. If you guys have any questions I am available as well :)

I was waitlisted for the spring semester, and never got accepted. Still haven't heard anything back about the summer and starting to get nervous! Anyone else in the same boat?

Just got in!!! I was not wait listed for spring 2016. My stats:

HESI - 95 overall

Science pre reqs - 3.7

Overall - 3.8
