This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)
I'm applying with the following stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.21
Science GPA: 3.66
Overall GPA: 2.81
I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)
Good luck to everyone!!
@almdont worry! Like encephalon said, its not over until the fat lady sings and she hasnt sung yet!. It does seem like they got out of order in their updates so keep your hopes up :)
thanks - it feels like the last 24 hours have really been an entire week! I need to find something to keep my mind off of things.
Great numbers by the way! I'm sure it is such a relief to have an answer :)
Thanks for the advice so far! You've all made some really excellent points.
UTH does go through the summer, that's right - I'd forgotten. This isn't particularly important for me, personally, as I'm not in a rush to graduate. I'd like to stay a kid a while longer, haha At this point, if I go to UTH, I'll graduate in May 2013, and if I go to TWU, I'll graduate in December 2013.
@taylor: wow, I'm so jealous that you got a tour. I did go to information sessions at both TWU and UTH, but didn't really get a tour. TWU has a bigger building, I think. (and their sim labs do sound incredible!)
Re: rankings - I had considered that, too. I know that UTHSC is ranked ahead of TWU, and that is certainly something to consider, but TWU does have excellent pass rates as well, on par with UTH, as taylor pointed out. Gah. I'm not getting anywhere with this, am I?
Another question: I'd read that UTH offers a BSN while TWU offers a BS with a Major in Nursing. Is there a difference?
@darcyanddebussy lol that's awesome!
I don't put too terribly much stock in rankings. If the board of nursing statistics show excellent first time pass rates for both schools, then I'm not going to fret over that detail!
The tour was just literally luck. A lady saw me looking around in the lobby and said that they don't really just let people wander around. I told her I was in TWU already, just not into the nursing program. She told me about all I could do was get a name badge, so I was like, why the heck not? I went to get it, and this counselor lady asked if I had seen the campus. I said no, but I was a potential student. She got so excited and took me all over the whole building! I met the librarian (well what there is of a library, anyway), several tech people, the dean, the academic coordinator, and some other people. The lady who does the sim labs for the RN-MSN program took the counselor and me through all the sim labs. The mannequins are insane! Dilating pupils, fluid/blood/medication intake monitors, they're wireless, they can code, they have bp/pulse, the works! I also learned that they require students to do head to toe assessments and bed baths on one another (AHH!!!) because it really puts you in the patient's awkward/embarassed perspective as a nurse. It makes sense, but wowww! hahah (I don't think she was joking, either). My fiance was totally jealous (he was with me) that his sim lab at SJC isn't near as nice (the one he had to spend 12 hours in yesterday!). She also took me into the campus gym, eating area (no cafeteria, just a place to eat), and some study rooms. It was a great experience! I'd really like to see UT to see if I get the same vibe. It's so hard to turn it down now!
My holds updated a little before 2pm today!! :balloons: I have an "S" last name. I'm so excited and I can't wait to meet my future classmates!!
It seems like they didn't get started updating holds until later in the day today--so I bet they'll keep on with it tomorrow.
My stats are already posted, but for future applicants, etc:
GPA: 4.0
Science: 4.0
Hesi: 96
CT: 810
I also had no medical experience and I took all of my classes at HCC (no college experience prior to that.)
I currently live in Spring, but am planning on moving down to TMC in January. It doesn't make sense for both me and my fiance (he works downtown) to drive downtown all the time and waste so much gas since our schedules wouldn't allow carpooling.
I'm not doing UT housing. I heard it's extremely difficult to get into, plus when I checked out the apartments online they didn't seem all that special and I had found cheaper places to check out.
