UTHSC (Houston) Spring

Published

This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)

I'm applying with the following stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.21

Science GPA: 3.66

Overall GPA: 2.81

I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)

Good luck to everyone!!

Specializes in Medical/Surgical Telemetry.

@Christina-

Those are the ones mine says, but if you have any questions, call the school and ask. I called not too long ago with a question and they were very helpful. Most likely they will tell you that the admission documents will come in the mail as part of an admissions packet (thats what they told me) but if they tell you anything differently, please let me know!

To everyone who has had their holds updated, go on Facebook and like the UTHSC SON Spring 2012 group :)

@taylorxteddy:

Same. I think rankings are somewhat of an indicator in how "good" a school can be, but I think that most of the time, they're probably more for bragging rights than anything else. I attend UH right now, and I know they're well below UT and A&M in rankings, but I love it here. I've had pretty good profs and have met some really great people.

Aaaah you're, like, the best commercial for TWU. That sounds so amazing. Gosh. I kind of want to drive down there tomorrow and see if I get the same treatment. (probably not.) I didn't see a whole lot of UT when I went to the information session - I remember a nice lobby area, elevators, and the bookstore, but TWU is definitely bigger. (and oh my gosh bed baths on each other? oh wow! yeah, I get why they're doing it but still!)

Gotta say, another thing that's sort of pushing me towards TWU is that their master's program in nursing education (which I'm looking into) is online, which would help a lot while I'm working. But still. I haven't made a decision yet. I haven't even sent in my confirmation for TWU! I want to make a decision by tomorrow and send it in then. I'm terrible with decisions.

Just posting my stats for future applicants. I'm very grateful and thankful I got into UTHSC, but I'm also fairly emotionally worn out from this process. My one big piece of advice to future applicants - please don't do what I did and only apply to one school. All the nursing schools get you to the same place, an R.N., and having a back-up plan would have been a comfort.

Science GPA: 4.0

Pre-nursing: 3.88

Overall: 3.6

HESEI: 98

Critical Thinking: 890

previous degrees: B.A. & J.D. -almost two decades ago

no previous medical experience

nerves -SHOT

Now, I'm going to go be grateful. Among the things that I am grateful for is all of you. I'm looking forward to meeting you in person either in school or, even more importantly, afterwards, when we are all nurses!

YAY grats to everyone. My holds have been updated also. OK time for a shot

Anyone know what letter we're up to?

Great job everyone! Another emotionally exhausting day has gone by. I'm assuming that because it is 5 we won't hear anything else for the day. I still have not gotten any good news.

FOr those of you who are in the same boat as me, remember that you KNOW you are supposed to be a nurse. Even if UT isn't the road that takes you on your journey, in the end you will be pinned and you will provide excellent care for years to come.

I've been emotional today, but I will not let this stop me from doing what I KNOW is the right thing for me to do. I will apply to UTH again. If I don't get in for my BSN they will hear from me again for my masters ;)

Congrats to everyone who has gotten in! Best of luck!!!!!!!

@saraiish, katybusymom, and firenice....have you guys heard anything yet? Nothing yet on my end. Just trying to hang in there hoping that I'm at the bottom of the stack??? I have to say I'm emotionally drained! :dzed:

Hey Spring -what are your stats again?

Here are mine...

science: 4.0

pre-req: 3.8

HESI 90

CT: 820

I do not have a bachelors and I only took the HESI once.

Just wondering about the stats of those who are still left.

My holds have increased!! Last name starts with R.

@alma625, No, I haven't heard anything. I'm emotionally drained too. I'm almost numb. I really thought I had a shot at getting in, but apparently I was dreaming. I'm really not looking forward to doing this all over again.

My last name starts with a W.

I wouldn't give up hope. I haven't heard anything from someone with a last name past S. I know what you mean about being numb though. I want this so bad and now that I'm pretty much convinced it isn't going to happen right now, it feels surreal. And my poor kids are just going crazy all over the house because I can't focus enough to do anything with them. This stress is old. I almost wish that instead of waiting for a letter to know for sure that they would change the status to "denied". I don't' want to be denied but I don't like feeling like I'm in limbo.

... corndogs for dinner, because I don't even think I can spread peanut butter on bread right now :bluecry1:

@alma625, You're funny. We had potato skins and my daughter made them because I am paralyzed at my desk.......waiting. GoldenBeginnings was accepted earlier with a last name that started with W. That's when I almost cried. I'm very happy for everyone that has gotten in so far, but please please save a seat for me:)
