UTHSC (Houston) Spring

Published

This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)

I'm applying with the following stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.21

Science GPA: 3.66

Overall GPA: 2.81

I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)

Good luck to everyone!!

Could I bother you for the critical thinking review book as well? I am taking the test on Wednesday. Did you take it again yet? What a pain that you had to do that. Your stats are fantastic, and it sounds like you're a shoo-in. My email is [email protected]. Thanks and best of luck!

No problem, I'll send it. Yeah, I am discouraged that I have to take it again and I'm still uncertain about the CT section but I'm sure eventually everything will be fine. Take the CT section seriously, study as much as you can. But I think I will take it at the end of the year (not applying to spring 2012). Thanks for your encouragement.

it takes forever for them to evaluate transcripts i will try calling and emailing to speed up the process

@janabeth, Where did you read that 1/2 to 1/3 of the applications aren't completed or aren't eligible? I was at the information session, and I don't remember anyone talking about it.

I read on the spring 2011 UTHSC thread that while there might be 800-1000 applicants only 1/2 to 1/3 of those applications are completed and eligible. That make the number of applicants way less daunting, yet I'm still so nervous.

That's interesting.

i heard that from someone else aswell

Hey everyone! Im applying to UTHS too ..im waiting to get my hesi confirmation. It says on the website that we have to complete 40 or the 60 hours..Ive done everything except taking chem with lab (i took chem without lab :( and intro to philosophy/ethics) . I have an overall GPA of 3.6 and science is 3.75 ...deadline is sep 1 for spring do you think its too late to apply and take the hesi. Im reading all the posts and im getting very discouraged about people with high GPA's getting rejected :(. Im also enrolled in a CNA class so hopefully that might mean something.. I just wanted some insight on whoever has taken the HESI and what to expect and also if you think there's hope for me among the 1480955 people applying haha

1480955, now the number has gone up to 1480956 cuz I'm applying too. You still have time to apply. The transcripts are probably gonna take the longest, but if you start right away you should be able to make the cut off of Sept 1st.

ok, i found the original post from the spring 2011 thread that was talking about 1/2 to 1/3 of the applications not being eligible.......it's a rumor, and nothing more. no fact to it at all. just fyi to all of your worry warts, like me, out there :)

does anyone know how many people uthsc accepts each semester?

i know it's highly competitive and i want to get in so badly!!

i am a ut nursing student who began the program this past spring 2010. i've heard varying numbers ranging from a total of 700 to 1000 applicants for 80-100 spots (i think one of the admissions people said that they interview 1/3 to 1/2 of those applicants with complete files). again, not all of those applicants had complete files though... i'm not sure how many didn't. that is all i know! :) and don't take those numbers as fact... this is just through word of mouth with the people in my class. "

That last part of the text was from the original post as well........

It's from "UT Houston Spring 2011" and it's post # 106, for those of you that would like to look it up yourself.

I'm just trying to calm everyone down before we all have panic attacks, lol :)

Okay, so I'm back after being depressed for a few days. Took my HESI and killed all of the sections except for A&P. Even did better on critical thinking. I got a 72 on that section and I honestly don't know what happened. I think I freaked or something. I took A&P 1 and 2 Honors and made and A in 1, B in 2, but retook it this past semester to refresh and bring it to an A. I feel like a complete idiot. There were some questions on there that really made we wonder if I truly had a good course or not. (I had a VERY reputable professor though, with a beautiful resume, so...) I mean I really feel like I learned all of that stuff fairly well. I took tons of practice tests and scored high, took online quizzes over different body systems and did well on those, too...

I am assuming UT is out now because I don't think I can retake it in time. However, I looked on the test website and UT's website and there is nowhere where it says how long you have to wait to retake it. I even Googled it and found some forums with people guessing it was 30-60 days but no one really knew.

Anyways, I am extremely disappointed in myself and would have never expected this. I have NEVER made this low of a grade on a test. :( I was hoping to be remotely competitive with my GPA and expected I'd do decent on this (at least a B). I probably should have studied more...

I asked the councelor at UT how long you have to wait to take it again and she told me that there is no waiting period, you can take it whenever you want, so you still have time, but ofcoorifice you have to be prepared to take it again because if you still do not have enough A&P study, what good will it do. Unfortunately A&P courses vary from teacher to teacher and school to school. I had the most difficult SOB for A&PII (I loved him though) but you should heavily rely on reading your book. The easier teachers will pass you but it will do you no good later. It sucks that people have one weakness that keeps them from passing. I got a 92 on A&P but 730 on CT. How did you do on CT?

@warning-sign and taylorxteddy, When I attended the info session last Wed. they told us that you can take the Hesi a maximum of TWO times for UTHSC, period!! There isn't a waiting period, but you can only take the test twice no matter how many times you apply to the school. I thought that policy was extremely strict, but I guess it's just how they do business. We were told if we took the Hesi twice this time and still didn't get in, that they would use the same Hesi scores for every application thereafter.
