I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)
Kimmy088, you had said that you got a notice for an interview the day applications were due. Do you think it will hurt me that I'm taking my HESI Aug 14 and so UT probably won't have my scores until after the Sept 1 deadline? Would it be beneficial for me to at least tell UT what I scored on the test prior to them seeing the offical score??
Im stressing out about this whole process. I talked with an admissions counselor and was told that even if I had a 4.0 and a good test score it wouldn't guarantee me a spot in.

Hi Merrel 5,
When I went to the information session this past May, the admissions counselors said they don't look at any applications until after the deadline, so I'm not sure how they would send interview letters by the deadline. I am worried too, even though I have a 4.0 and good test scores, I was also told that I may not get in. I get nervous in interviews and feel that I may not necessarily present my 'best' self, but we'll see if I even get an interview.

SerenePeach, okay, I looked at my letter and it was dated for September 1st, and I received it September 3rd. I also went to an informational session last summer before I applied and i think they told us the same thing. The interviewers are really nice even if they put up a strong front. The day of my class's orientation, a lot of people commented about how their interviewer (now our professors...... most, if not all, of the interviewers will be teaching you in your first semester) showed no feedback or emotion, or how they were nervous during the interview, or how they only spent 7 minutes with the interviewer while another person spent 15, but obviously they still got in. I was really nervous about my interview too, but knowing the professors now, I don't think they were looking for some magical formula that tells how one person will be a great nurse and another a horrible one. If you are truly interested in and passionate about this profession, it will come out no matter how nervous you are. :) Hope this helped!

I really don't think it will count against you. I'm sure UT knows that there are applicants who are taking their HESI in August and will account for that (especially since I think the HESI only sends the results to the schools at the end of every month right? My memory may be failing me). They definitely gave a little leeway for the applicants in my class who took their NET really close to the deadline.
Remember, Even though they sent out interview letters that first week of Sept, they didn't stop with the letters until early Oct. If it does worry you, calling into admissions just to check wouldn't hurt, and it will ease your mind.
Well, think about it, if just test score and GPA were the deciding factors, then they wouldn't even have an interview. I think that is how TWU does their admissions. They don't have an interview (well when I applied with them, they didn't), so what they do is just take your GPA and exam score, assign points to them and take the top 80 or however many they admit people and send them acceptance letters. Hope this helped!
ok...so i just received my transcript evaluation this week...i took american government and intro to philosophy back in ohio over 10 years ago. they're both 3 credit courses, but UT is only giving me 2 credits for each one. anyone know why? i'm planning to call them next week to ask, but anyone else run into this when your transcripts were evaluated? does this mean i have to repeat these??
Yes, I got my transcript mail too... One thing to inform every one is to MAKE SURE they counted your classes and everything seems right. They counted my intro to psy as elective class and gave me no credit for intro to psy class. but if you give them a call they are really nice and take care of any mistakes right away.

I'm nervous as well...I'm scheduled to take the HESI August 14 too.
Does anyone know if the scores are sent electronically to UT and how fast they get there?
I'm also taking the TEAS exam for TWU but I checked with the testing center and they said the scores are sent within 24-48 hours.
Let's hope for the best!
I actually spoke with Elsevier today. The man on the phone explained to me that they had changed the way the scores were released. Apparently, as soon as you take the test UT can see your score. I put a call in to speak with someone at UT to find out if this was true, but I have yet to hear back. The man didn't give me too much information but he said that the school could see your score immediately.
Hope this helps!
On a different note...
I've read some posts about the HESI exam and how people have been taking the chemistry and biology sections. I know UT does not require them, but do you have to take those sections regardless of what UT requires?? I'd rather not waste my time on sections that make no difference in my overall score. I take the test next week so I just want to be as prepared for it as possible!

Actually you DO NOT have to take the other sections unless you are applying to other school that require you to take Chemistry and Biology. When I went to the UT info session that is what they told us.
I actually took the HESI in early June but did not do very well in the AP section. (I am taking my AP classes now in summer) which is why I did not score as high as I wanted. The math portion is super easy! Vocab and reading was decent too.
(Thanks for the info about the HESI scores - once you get in contact w/ UT let me know if they actually receive the scores immediately)
Thanks!

Steph39333,
when you said, "The questions are very similar to whats in the book" for AP part on the test.. what book are you referring to?
