Spring 2011 UT Health Sciences Nursing Hopefuls

Published

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

Steph39323 I graduated in May of 2009!

And for all those who do not think that there scores will be in on time, I would double check to make sure that that is ok, because I was told it was not (why I am applying for Spring 2011, rather than Fall 2010)

And they did finally update my UT Link so it shows that they have received my HESI scores!

NAM123,

The anatomy portion of the exam was simple enough. There were a few questions on the skull, certain bones on the skull, review the anatomical positions of the body too.

What was difficult for me was the physiology portion since I didn't take AP2 yet. I remember there were questions about the heart and blood flow from the ventricles to which artieries, etc. Also some questions about the respiratory system.

I used the HESI evolve to study and it was great for the math and reading portions. But I would highly recommend you study your AP book. The study guide did not go into enough detail for the HESI exam.

My summer classes end on August 11 and I'm taking the HESI on August 14th. EekkkK!!! Super nervous!

What is the transcript evaluation?

You can send it in for the school to review what you are missing? How do you do this?

Jeanster,

Thanks for your reply. Yea I am taking my test next week also. Um I am worried now because I didnt take AP II yet either. Wow..

but thanks for your help. Oh when you said that there were skull questions like temporal, occipital or deep inside the skull?

The transcript thing that your talking about we got a letter from UT-h listed all the classes that we have completed and which one we still need to complete

Nam123,

I never received a letter from UT-h about my courses...Hmm..I will email/call them. Thanks!

As for the AP portion, don't be nervous! I remember temporal and occipital. Just look up online the flow of the blood from the heart.

Here's a short review: (I would recommend drawing out a picture until you remember)

so it goes vena cava to the right atrium down into the right ventricle. then it goes through the pulmonary artery (away from heart) to the lungs where it picks up oxygen then returns to the left atrium through the pulmonary vein

then from left atrium, it goes down into the left ventricle, which pumps to the entire body

so the pulmonary arteries and veins are opposite of the rest of the body when it comes to which caries oxygenated versus unoxygenated blood pulmonary artery carries the blood to the lungs to pick up oxygen and dump CO2 then the pulm veins bring the oxygen rich blood back to the left atria then it flows into the left ventricle which pumps to the entire body.

I just hope when I take the HESI again it won't be more difficult bc it's my second attempt!

Good luck!

Hi Jeanster,

I have applied at UT-Houston in June I still haven't received any transcript evaluation letter. Please let me know how that works? Does everyone get one or something? I would appreciate any information.

Hey you should have got a transcript letter thing.. I got mine like 2 or 3 weeks after I submitted my application..you might wanna call them

Jeanster,

Thank you.. so was the heart stuff simple like that? bc i know the blood flow of the heart really well. Thank you..

was there anything difficult things like about lymph system or reproductive system?

So I read about the transcript evalutaion and I called the Registrar this morning. The person I spoke to said the school of nursing has to request your transcript to be evaluated and that the evaluations are not done automatically. I did go ahead and request that mine be evaluated so that at least I know where I stand. She also said the school has to look at your HESI scores to make sure you meet the 75% requirement usually before they request an evaluation. I'm not sure what is holding mine up, I did well on the HESI and my gpa is pretty good also. Did anyone else call?

Hi CareerChangeMom,

Thanks for the info!! I haven't called yet but I will to see what is going on. I have not received any letter about transcript evaluation. If you dont mind me asking, but what was your HESI score? Mine was an overall 89.43 and a 890 on the critical care. I hope the people who did not get a transcript evaluation means that we dont have a chance to get an interview or something like that.

Thanks again for the information.

we'll see i guess. My overall hesi score was 93 and 800 on the critical thinking. My overall gpa is 3.5 and my science gpa is 4.0. I may call the nursing school to see how the process works.

Hi CareerChangeMom,

Well I emailed admissions at UT-Houston and he emailed me back saying that UT did send my evaluation since June 14 and he said it was on my file. I told him I did not receive it and he emailed me back telling me that he was going to resend again today. I guess it got lost in the mail or they send it to the wrong address. Anyways, maybe that's what happen with yours try talking to admissions they probably can look at your file better than the registrar. And my GPA is 3.9 overall and my science GPA is 4.0. Let me know if you need some more information or I can help you in some way.
