Spring 2011 UT Health Sciences Nursing Hopefuls

Published

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

I'm nervous too. I have to brushed my vocabulary because I only study from the elsevier study guide.. Any advice on where to study for vacabulary? For the a&p section I'm studying from the elsevier and my notes from a&p. Heart valves(mitral/biscuspid and tricuspid) the nephron stucture(where water gets reabsorbed and minerals get absorbed)Major nerves, glands that release hormones and also a question about the pituitary gland ... And they also had one question about the ear but I don't remember. Do you think is going to be similar to the first test??

I hope its similar! I'll let you know after I take it...

You took the exam over 30 days ago correct? I think you have to or they would not count the score. Unless that has changed?

Yes, please let me know :).. Yes, I took the test on July 12!! You have to wait 30 days to retake the exam. Good luck!!

FYI, I saw this on UTHSC's website, regarding the HESI:

Which test version do I schedule to take, Version 1 or Version 2?

First time testers need Version 1. If you are repeating the test Version 2 is required.

Jeanster,

Good luck on your test tomorrow!!! :) Let me know how did you do!!

Hey Jeanster..

Surprisingly I got an A on the AP section and I did okay on the other part. I was little upset with my vocabulary grade and overall I made a B... I dont know if I should retake it or stick with it..errr..

Jeanster... and every one else.. AP is not that bad. Honestly like what every one else says look at the big picture and not the details. You will do just fine...

One thing i HATE about this test is that you can go back and review the questions...also (my gosh) there were so many math problems..

NAM123,

Was it your second time taking the test? or first time?? How was the AP section? and Vocabulary? good job

Ohhh from what book did you study for the AP sections?

I took my HESI exam yesterday and I was just curious when UT will get the scores. I was told that they get them immediately now by the people at Elsevier but I didn't know if that was true or not. I'm just worried about them getting my scores by the Sept. 1 deadline. Has anyone taken the HESI recently and knows if UT has gotten their scores yet??

Also, I saw that the class average for my test was an 84. I was just curious what other rounds were getting as the overall average..

Did take the exam specifically for UT Houston? If so, don't worry about it. When you take an exam for a specific school, Elsevier is contractually bound to get the scores to that particular school by the deadline.

If you take the HESI for another school, say TAMU, and you have the scores sent to UT, you wouldn't be guaranteed that the scores would make it to UT by the deadline.

If you go to the Elsevier site and login to your Evolve account, if you can see your scores, then the school you took the exam for already has them.

I took it specifically for UT so that's awesome news to know that UT has my score! Thanks so much!

I know I've said this before, but it's really annoying that UT did NOT accept my Humanities class as a fine arts credit, when all of the other nursing schools I'm applying to did. In my Humanities class, we studied paintings and music from certain time periods. What kills me is that UT said I need a Visual/Performing arts credit, and I took both marching band in High school and paint classes as audits in college.

Now I gotta waste my time to take a class that has no bearing (imo) on Nursing. I feel I'm already rounded enough in the arts!

Oh well. Have a great day everyone!
