I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)
kimmy088 - THANK YOU SO MUCH for that very helpful info!I can't tell you how much I appreciate it - I was so worried it might be March before they could get loan disbursements out and I wouldn't be able to cover tuition/rent, which would really leave me unable to get started. Sounds like that isn't typically the case - what a relief!
Also sounds like I may need to be more worried about parking than student loans - that hadn't even crossed my mind. Whoops. :-)
Thanks again for the response and good luck with your classes - I am a ton less worried than I was a few nights ago!
I was wondering the exact same thing! Thanks for asking and thank you kimmy088 for putting my mind at ease!
TXJeepGril - I guess I am a planner too!:)
So since the deadline is coming up in a couple of days, everyone should have everything submitted to UT by now. So that means soon we should be receiving interview letters. Let's keep each other updated on who is getting interviews, when, how they went and our scores to maybe help compare what's going on.
Here are my scores:
Nursing GPA - 3.593
Science GPA - 3.647
Undergrad GPA - 3.162 (I have a BS in Neuroscience from Baylor University. That's what this GPA is)
HESI A2 Version 2 (I retook this because I had previously taken Version 1 for Baylor SON without the critical thinking)
--Overall - 95.57% (Class avg: 79)
--Critical Thinking - 880 (Class avg: 766)
--Math - 98% (Class avg: 84)
--Grammar - 96% (Class avg: 84)
--AP - 88% (Class avg: 72)
--Reading Comp - 97.87% (Class avg: 81)
--Vocab - 98% (Class avg: 75)
I had previously applied to both the Summer 2010 Accelerated BSN and Fall 2010 Generic BSN but did not receive an interview letter for either because UH never sent in my completed transcript. Therefore, the SON had on file that I did not complete the minimum 40 hours of pre-reqs to qualify for an interview. I was, however, accepted to the Baylor School of Nursing in Dallas starting in Fall 2010, but unfortunately had to decline the offer for financial reasons. I am hoping that by me declining acceptance to Baylor does not hurt my chances of acceptance to UT for the Spring.
Anyway, keep us posted on interviews!!! I'm excited to see how interviews will go!
Hello! I can't believe we need to wait until November to find out if we get accepted! I'm so anxious to start nursing school. At least we will find out soon if we get interviews. Here are my scores:
Nursing GPA - 4.0
Science GPA - 4.0
Undergrad GPA - 3.8 (BA in Liberal Arts)
Hesi A2
--Overall - 96.7%
--Critical Thinking - 880
--Math - 100%
--Grammar - 100%
--AP - 92%
--Reading Comp - 93%
--Vocab - 98%
--Learning Style - Visual/Analytical
--Personality Style - Creative/People
UT is definitely my first choice. I also applied to TWU and UH-Victoria for their accelerated program. Good luck to everyone!
Ladies - what is the difference between the Nursing GPA and Science GPA? I think I know that Science GPA is your most recent score in A&P I/II, Chem and Micro - is Nursing the GPA for all 60 hrs of prereqs?
Also, isn't it a little odd that most people on here have crazy high grades / test scores? I am hoping that we are just a small group of nerdy overachievers because I am VERY nervous if all applicants are this strong....I also applied to UTMB/TWU, but my heart is set on UT, so I am holding my breath for the next two months!
I also just finished a CNA certification and am looking for clinical work this fall to get my feet wet - I am so nervous about that part of this new world. Has anyone worked clinically before? Any pointers?
For anyone who already took pathophys, I am still waiting for an official transcript review from the Registrar, but I did speak to a BSN counselor the other day who explained that they would not give elective credits for Pathophysiology because it is part of their curriculum (bummer). She did say that you can petition with the professor for credit and opt to take a different course - just a heads up for anyone in that same boat....
Here are my stats:
Complete with all prereqs except Sociology, Eng 2, Hist I/II (taking all this fall)....

jpchouston,
When did you mail and fax your application? Did you ever get a letter in the mail from UT? This letter has your ID on it, so you can view your status on UTLink. I received it soon after I submitted my online application. I read that UT is ONLY accepting online applications this year, so you might want to check on that.
I faxed it a week ago. I did not mail it. What browser (IE, Firefox, etc.) and operating system did you use (XP, Mac, Windows 7, etc.) to submit the application?
I've tried IE 8, Firefox, and Google Chrome on Windows 7 x64. Submit never worked. I have time because the accelerated program has an application deadline of December 1.

yea i called and checked. I have to retake it. stupid me for gettign a 74 on the vocab. but i got a book this time. i have an exam on monday. just going to study the vocab and A&P. nothing else. my friend will use it for next application period. I noticed some of the answers "not the questions" were the same as on the exam so i will be studying the answers so i know what the difference is between each choice.
for example
what part of pbj sandwich is derived from fruit?(obvious)
jelly
peanut butter
bread
rather than just knowing jelly comes from fruit you would look were PB and bread are derived from.
