Spring 2011 UT Health Sciences Nursing Hopefuls

Published

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

hello everyone,

were near the end and the deadline is quickly approaching, but i wish all good luck! i'm just waiting to take the hesi on the 23rd of this month so this week im dedicated to studying. any helpful information regarding the hesi will be helpful. im using the evolve study guide, but i've heard it's not very helpful. by the way, will my test scores for the hesi make it ti ut-houston by the sept 1st deadline?

hello everyone,

by the way, will my test scores for the hesi make it ti ut-houston by the sept 1st deadline?

if you really want to know, you should use the evolve support center and open a ticket. that's what i did a few weeks ago. i asked if my scores would arrive in time. this is a direct quote from the evolve help desk:

your scores will be delivered to the school on the date agreed upon by the school. once you have received the notification email, the school you had tested for will have already received the results.

however, if you take the exam for school a and are having your scores sent to school b, only school a is guaranteed to receive the scores by the deadline.

Oh wow so i just viewed my transcript through utlink and theyre only at the moment giving me credit for 39 credits instead of 41. I took a class at HCC that was only 2 hours. I have a question are they not accepting classes that are 2 hours

How do you view your transcripts in UTLink?

Hello everyone.

I just took the HESI A2 yesterday and did fairly well (of course I don't know how I did on critical thinking yet). Right now I am debating whether or not it would be worth retaking. Has anyone taken the second HESI exam yet? How different is the Anatomy section?

I also wanted to thank everyone for posting their comments. They were very helpful in preparation for the exam.

From my experience with the exam and the comments I read I would like to provide some advice for those still taking the first version.

- Study the EVOLVE HESI study guide. This was very helpful for the

vocab, math, grammer, and reading.

- For the A&P I used the Dummies book. This was for the most part

helpful, although I also remember some concepts from when I

took the classes 3 yrs back.

- Do not worry about medical terminology, I previously read some ' commentary recommending this and found it to be a waste of time.

- As for the critical thinking, I was unable to find a way to prepare for

this. This portion is mainly asks what you would do in certain

situations and which patient should be addressed first.

Hope this helps! Again, please let me know if you have taken the second version of the HESI exam. Thanks a bunch!

What does it say under holds on everyones utlink?

@LindsayPaige

It says:

Current CPR card hold

Immunizations

What does it say under holds on everyones utlink?

My UTLINK also lists Current CPR card and Immunizations under Holds. From what I understand, you only need to complete these two items if you're admitted into the nursing program. Your application will still be processed for entrance into the nursing school if these two aren't complete.

Hi, ladies -

For what it might be worth, I was reading through Nov-Dec 2009 threads last wknd to have a better understanding of what happens after you are accepted and there was mention of students going for orientation days that included CPR cert.

I also know you can pull the reqd immunizations list out of the catalog if needed....

I just completed CNA certification that included BLS CPR and was looking for a way to send that documentation to UT, but haven't found anything so far, so apparently it isn't part of this stage of the process...

I am a little worried atm. i got a 86 composite score on the Hesi. but I got a 74 on the vocab. my math, grammar, reading, is what made is shoot through the roof, barely passed A&P =(. but 1 point off on the vocab isnt that bad is it?

I am going to call tomorrow to see if they can overlook it.

I am still waiting for them to fully update my account

I am freaking out!!! I didn't realize Personality Styles and Learning Styles was required!! It's definitely my fault for not double-checking to see what was required, but in everything I've read, I didn't see a minimum score associated with those sections, so I didn't even think twice about it. I did really well on the other parts of the HESI, and I would die if I had to take the test again. Does anyone know if you can take the test again and just take those two sections?

Does anyone know if you can take the test again and just take those two sections?

You'll be retaking the entire test. That's how it works.

Everybody, do you know with certainty that you'll end up attending school where you think you will? It makes more sense to take all sections of the HESI. I don't mean all of the sections for a particular school, I mean absolutely all sections. I've taken the HESI three times. The last time I said enough was enough and I took everything. When I sent the registration request to the exameligibility email address, I said I was applying to a school that requires the HESI with critical thinking. I took all sections. Now, no matter where I apply, I'm covered.
