Spring 2011 UT Health Sciences Nursing Hopefuls

Published

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

What did you guys think about the HESI exam? Any suggestion about the AP and vocabulary section? anything you remember?

thanks for helping :)

NAM123 -

I don't remember too much about the AP portion, but the vocab from the HESI study guide was spot on for me. I took the HESI at the end of June just after taking the TEAS, so the TEAS study guide really helped me prepare for the AP portion. I took so many practice exams...each timed. This helped me stay under time during the HESI, and even go back to recheck my answers.

Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know the time frame to complete the hep immunization and the drug screening if we get accepted into the program?

Six months to complete hepatitis B immunizations. At one information session, we were told that there was a more expensive option that could be completed in a month, but I have not verified that or found out how and where to do that.

It also takes 6 months to complete hepatitis A immunizations, which are not required. They can be done at the same time as B. Do you really want to be a student nurse and not have the hepatitis A immunizations? Doesn't make sense to me to skip the hep A just because it isn't officially required.

I think its a good Idea to start taking your immunizations asap. I started taking mine in May since the Hep A & Hep B have to be spread out. You can find the list on the UT website.

thanks so much you guys!! good luck to everyone

Hey NAM123,

So how did the HESI go? I'm scheduled to take mine this Saturday.

Hello everybody! I have a question does anybody knows if I have to re-take all the sections of the HESI even if I passed them?? I got a 68 on a&p or I only have to take the ones I failed?? thanks I'm also applying for Spring 2011

lovesunshine,

You will need to retake the entire HESI again. I'm taking it the second time this Saturday. I did bad on the AP section as well! :(

jeanster, thanks really?? Ahh I was hoping not to take all the exams!! I'm taking it on tuesday!!! good luck... from where are studying the a&p part?? from the elsevier study guide?

I know...I took the HESI in June the first time. I just finished AP2 in the summer so I was just going to review my textbook.

The elseiver study guide did not work for me the first time. I might study from the McGraw Hill study guide as well.

Goodluck to you as well! I'm nervous! I did sooo well on all the other sections except for the AP. Do you remember what types of questions? It was about the heart and some bones and body positions right?
