This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)
I'm applying with the following stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.21
Science GPA: 3.66
Overall GPA: 2.81
I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)
Good luck to everyone!!
@ah12, breathe and calm down :), if you have taken AP 1 and 2 you will be fine on the AP sectioni opnly missed one question and i did not review that section. math is basic at best. english is pretty basic the hardest is the CT, just know nursing protocol and use AP know how to determine the most critical cases.
@saraiish: thanks for that...do you remember how many questions each section had?
Math= 55 questions
Reading= 53 questions
A&P= 30 questions
Vocabulary= 30 questions
Grammar= 30 questions
Critical Thinking= 30 questions
Learning styles/personal styles= 14 questions each
I recommend doing Critical Thinking first as you need the most energy and concentration for this
Then Reading which also requires a lot of energy and patience to read.
Then A&P which is done quickly but requires thought.
Then vocab or grammar
Then math, which is more about figuring out what to do. but does not really need a lot of concentration, yet it takes the longest time. Of coorifice this is how I am going to do it next time, you have to decide.
I studied this book which I found online and can send it to your if you want. I didn't do too good on that section but I think if you practice a lot with this book and see the rationale to the answers, it really helps.Fundamentals Success A Course Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking
BTW, UTHSC is asking for a minimum score of 750 on the critical thinking section but I only got 730. But I see that a lot of schools don't even ask for this section and that some do not care how you do on this section but only want to see how you do on it. Does anybody know if UTHSC might reject me if I scored below what they want?
GPA 4.0
HESI overall 93%
And I even go a letter of recommendation.
Could I bother you for the critical thinking review book as well? I am taking the test on Wednesday. Did you take it again yet? What a pain that you had to do that. Your stats are fantastic, and it sounds like you're a shoo-in. My email is [email protected]. Thanks and best of luck!
Hi all. Joining the thread a little late, but I'm a Spring hopeful too. I'm taking the HESI next Wendesday and trying to get my transcript evals in order- it has been like pulling teeth to get anyone (a) on the phone, (b) who understands what I'm clearly asking to be corrected, and © who has any clue how to do so!
Other than that unfortunate situation, I am so in love with everything about the program and have some serious concerns about my application- some big strengths and big weaknesses. I'd be heartbroken not to join the Spring class, but here's hoping!
Best of luck to you all!
Just curious: Anyone planning to go on to an MSN program after BSN? I think I want to go the nurse practitioner route. Just wondering if anyone else was thinking the same.
I have a BBA in Marketing from UT, so I am also looking at some of the alternate-entry programs elsewhere in the country that allow students with a degree to go straight to an accelerated MSN program without having to earn a BSN first. But UT HSC is my first choice, even if it means I have to earn an extra degree! :)
@nightingale, I've tried the phone route with UTHSC also, and it just doesn't work well. You have to email them. You will get the best response that way. I tried calling and when I DID get an actual person on the phone, they were rushed/hurried and didn't really have the time to help me, told me to email them instead. I did, and voila', 2 days later my issue was resolved and my transcript was corrected.
I want to be a Nurse Practitioner also, but I need to stay in Houston, so I haven't looked into other programs. I had planned on staying at UT.......if I get in :)
Howdy!
I have enjoyed reading this thread, just now decided to join. Waiting for the admissions decision is already proving to be a test of my patience, and there are still 3 months to go...I'm thinking I'm gonna need to get a hobby between now and then! I went to the open house on Wednesday; I left feeling encouraged and excited. The staff and faculty that spoke were so nice! I read on the spring 2011 UTHSC thread that while there might be 800-1000 applicants only 1/2 to 1/3 of those applications are completed and eligible. That make the number of applicants way less daunting, yet I'm still so nervous.
My stats are:
Science GPA: 4. 0
Nursing pre-reqs- 3.94
Hesi: 92.55
Here's to hoping time flies & good luck to everyone!
