UTHSCSA Spring 2012
I just wanted to assure anyone who hasn't heard that you shouldn't give up hope! I was informed that the admissions committee met last Friday and that letters will be mailed on Nov. 15, so if you haven't heard yet, there is still a chance you're in! For those of you who have been accepted, have you found any good resources for grants/scholarships?

Big ditto. I was just crossing my fingers to squeak by and get an interview and then lock it up during that portion. On the other hand, we can just let go and realize there's nothing more we can do after turning in the application. That takes a little pressure off... Just trying to see the silver lining here!

Sure! Can you send me a private message with your e-mail address?

Is that true that they didn't even interview for Fall?? (I assume you meant Fall 2011, right?) Where did you hear that? I'm trying my best to be calm too!

To answer your questions: 1. I'm not sure exactly how far in advance you need to start the process, but I registered in July, took the Exam this past week, and my application is due Sept. 1, no problem. Here are UTHSC's instructions for registration: http://son.uth.tmc.edu/dotAsset/2368423.pdf 2. I studied hard for a few weeks (not working). It's very helpful if you took A&P I & II recently. If not, review that. The recommended review book is essential: http://www.us.elsevierhealth.com/product.jsp?isbn=9781416056355 3. If you have a degree and test well, those are pluses, but definitely review the specific material outlined in the above book. Here are a few helpful hints: -The Vocab section seemed to be all from the book. It's not much, so study it well. -The A&P review in the book is not very thorough. Review in depth. I know that sounds vague, but if you have taken A&P I and II, you'll do fine. Just don't expect everything on the test to be in the review book or vice versa. -For the math section, memorize the conversions in the review book (e.g. 1 mile = 1760 yards). There aren't many, and they'll definitely help you on the test. -The Critical Thinking section is tricky. There's not really a good way to prepare for it. Each question is a scenario in which a nurse might find him/herself, and a decision must be made. All of the answers are correct- you just have to select the most correct. It's sort of testing your nursing intuition. Sounds crazy, but just try your best and use common sense. -DEFINITELY look at past semester application threads (Spring 2012, Fall 2011) for more detailed study hints. Hope that helps! Good luck!

FREE HESI REVIEW MATERIALS! I am applying for Spring 2012 and just took the HESI. I have some materials I'd be happy to share if you're interested: -Evolve study guide -a very basic A&P review that I put together -A&P for Dummies Workbook -conversion flash cards (just a few, but they helped on the math section) -booklet of Critical Thinking questions (Warning_Sign sent the NCLEX Critical Thinking review book to anyone who asked, and I just printed the practice questions) If anyone wants any of that, it's all yours! I studied really hard for a few weeks and made a 97.6% overall and an 860 on CT, so I think some of those materials had to have helped! Let me know if you're interested.

If you followed the UTHSC site instructions and requested to take the exam via e-mail, UTHSC would have been listed as the school to which they should send results. I don't know how that works if you take it for multiple schools... I'm sure you already did this, but here are the instructions for UTHSC that explain everything: http://son.uth.tmc.edu/dotAsset/2368423.pdf I had the same question and had just forgotten that I already took care of that part since it was awhile ago. Hope that helps, and best of luck!

After you have your transcript(s) sent to UT, they send you an evaluation that will note any prerequisites you are missing and calculate your nursing and science GPAs. Sometimes they miss things, so go over it carefully. For example, I took an advanced anthropology course at UT Austin that counted as my writing component, but when I got my transcript evaluation from UTHSC, they said I was missing that course. I had to petition for a change- just sent an e-mail asking them to look at it again and note that UT Austin allowed that course to fulfill that same requirement. Does that help? I'm not sure if all of that needs to be done before the Sept. 1 deadline. I think you just have to have credit for 40 of the 60 prerequisite hours. I imagine you can argue the details after the deadline, as long as that basic requirement is fulfilled.

I'm taking it Wednesday as well! What is your testing site and time? I am super-nervous about the A&P and CT sections. I have just been looking at the NCLEX critical thinking prep book @warning_sign sent us, but it's tough to discern which questions would be on the HESI A2 and which are too advanced as the book is a prep for the exit exam, not admission. I have also been advised by a credible source that in the CT section, sometimes none of the answers appears to be correct, but you just have to choose the best, and often they are all correct, but again, you choose the highest priority or MOST correct. Sounds pretty open for (mis)interpretation to me... Yikes. Do you have any other tips? Best of luck! :)

Just curious: Anyone planning to go on to an MSN program after BSN? I think I want to go the nurse practitioner route. Just wondering if anyone else was thinking the same. I have a BBA in Marketing from UT, so I am also looking at some of the alternate-entry programs elsewhere in the country that allow students with a degree to go straight to an accelerated MSN program without having to earn a BSN first. But UT HSC is my first choice, even if it means I have to earn an extra degree! :)

Hi all. Joining the thread a little late, but I'm a Spring hopeful too. I'm taking the HESI next Wendesday and trying to get my transcript evals in order- it has been like pulling teeth to get anyone (a) on the phone, (b) who understands what I'm clearly asking to be corrected, and © who has any clue how to do so! Other than that unfortunate situation, I am so in love with everything about the program and have some serious concerns about my application- some big strengths and big weaknesses. I'd be heartbroken not to join the Spring class, but here's hoping! Best of luck to you all!

Could I bother you for the critical thinking review book as well? I am taking the test on Wednesday. Did you take it again yet? What a pain that you had to do that. Your stats are fantastic, and it sounds like you're a shoo-in. My email is [email protected]. Thanks and best of luck!
