This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)
I'm applying with the following stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.21
Science GPA: 3.66
Overall GPA: 2.81
I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)
Good luck to everyone!!
@warning-sign, Would you mind sending me the book? I would like to read it before my test. My email is [email protected] Thanks in advance.
Total bummer that you have to take the test over again but the bright side is that you WILL do much better on the Critical Thinking portion this time, b/c you will know what to expect :)
-_- now I am even more nervous. Lol well basically stuff you have already heard of I'm sure like ABCs and triage and elderly and children first. Also, I've heard that if you just think really hard about what you have learned in A and P and really apply it to clinical aspects you can figure a lot of them out. Just ask yourself, well okay so I know based on how this body system reacts to this the nurse should do that to prevent blah from occuring. Idk if that makes sense because it is so vague. There really isn't much you can do to study it except knowing "prioritaztion of care" as they call it in nursing school. I think it is lame that we have to know that at all... bleh.

Okay, I'm sending the Critical Thinking book (if anybody else wants it let me know: Fundamentals Success A Course Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking). The practice questions on the book are quite similar to those on the test but you do not have to know the theories, phylosophers, or terms. You have to know priority treatment, dealing with staff members, applying a little A&P knowledge might help, know nursing practices like patients can reject treatment, nurses should follow proper instructions, nurses should not do more that what they are trained for... stuff like that might also be necessary. I think if you study this book really well it will help a lot but it's hard because it's a lot of material. Thanks for your support.

Well, thanks for letting me know. It wasn't hard but I don't want to have to study again (especially A&P) and have to pay for it again and sit there for 4 hours. But I guess it's no big deal.
