This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)
I'm applying with the following stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.21
Science GPA: 3.66
Overall GPA: 2.81
I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)
Good luck to everyone!!
@heavykevy and leinus, do you have any suggestions on what to study for the critical thinking portion of the Hesi? I take the test in a couple of weeks and I have no idea what to expect. Did you find sample questions online, in a book, a study guide? Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks :)
@katybusymom, the deadline for HCC is Sept 1st also. Yes, I went to an information session and the director specifically told me that she had a bunch of openings for the Fall. The deadline for the fall was April 1st and she told me this in June. However, I'd rather go to TWU or UH since I already have all the pre-reqs complete (minus Chemistry-currently enrolled).
I was going to register to take the test late in August. I thought the scores would be posted automatically. I didn't know you had to wait around three weeks. I guess I better not procrastinate. I thought that we'd be okay as long as we took the HESI or TEAS before the deadline. Does anyone know how that works?
I am another hopeful! :) My HESI scores are also not posted and I took it July 6th. I emailed EVOlVE and they said the school has access to the scores within 48 hours. They also do not show receipt of my transcripts so I probably will call.
As far as preparing for the critical thinking... remember to prioritize triage according to Airway, Breathing, Circulation. Consider also safety first and the age of patient. Children and elderly go first. I am not sure anything could actually prepare you for that section of Hesi.
hello, i am applying at UTHSC houston (spring 2012) and TWC, i spoke to someone from TWC after i sent my application for her to tell me that for my application to be considered i have to have completed my sciences with a grade, i told her that i am just missing statistics and should be taking it this fall but she said i needed to have it with a grade so that cancelled TWC.i registered to take my hesi august 20th just to give me time to atleast study for it as i am occupied with summer classes for right now.i wasnt sure if that will be late but a customer serv rep said that for entrance exams the results are sent to the school within 3-5 business days( am just hoping she said the right thing). i heard that the test will be a 4hr test, with all these sections (math, reading comprehension, vocabulary and general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking, learning styles and personality styles) do i need to really rush through them on that day to keep up with time?
pls do i just ignore the sections that are not required by the school( eg chemistry, physics) or are those courses going to be automatically removed from the test?
i have bought the hesi book from evolve and also the mcgraw hill's test, with these two is there any particular way i should study (based on where i should concentrate on) and mostly any tips for the critical thinking section?
i am so sorry, its a lot of questions that i am asking, i am so scared.pls any answer will help.you dont have to answer all, just any one that u know about.anything helpful will be appreciated.thanks in advance. Goodluck to all.thanks
I did not take the chemistry or biology sections so that allowed for plenty of time. I would suggest taking the personality and learning styles test first just to get the jitters out of the way and then take the sections that you need to be the most alert because you get a little tired by the end. I did reading last and now wished I did it near the beginning because it was hard to concentrate on the passages. The evolve book did a good job in preparation though I would recommend that you take both A and P's before taking it. There are also flash cards that are available on some of the flash card websites that contain HESI vocabulary etc. It is very important that you know the conversions for the math section. Good Luck!!
