This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)
I'm applying with the following stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.21
Science GPA: 3.66
Overall GPA: 2.81
I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)
Good luck to everyone!!
I agree encephalon! They said nov 15 at the latest at the open house a few months ago but I think they just say that to be safe so they don't look bad if it takes a little longer than normal. I know most nursing schools seem to have a hard time getting applications processed in a timely matter, but so far UTHSC seems to be on top of things. I received my UTlink stuff and transcript eval within days of sending in my application and that was through the mail! Lol I think we should be hearing something sooner than everyone thinks!
I receives a letter in the mail from the school yesterday. They sent me another transcript eval. and all of my classes are in and have been for some time. I have all the pre-reqs. done for the school, so I don't know why they sent it. I was different because the envelope had a yellow barcode on it. Has anyone else had this? That makes me a little nervous. Hope it's not a prelude to a rejection.
Hey - I just discovered this conversation and I didn't feel like reading all 69 pages!!!! So sorry if what I am asking has already been covered. When did they school announce that they would be doing no interviews? WHen I went to an information session 6 months ago I was told that we would be notified by November 15 if we would get an interview. My friend just started this summer at UTHSC and she was interviewed. Just need to know what to expect. I've been doing SO MANY practice interviews!!!!!!
Thanks for the help! ANd I'm glad to know I'm not the only one anxiously pacing in front of the computer or stalking the mail truck :)
that is a good hesi score. looking at past applicants...it seems to be a small part of the picture as one applicant had an 83 and got in and one had a 97 and didn't get in. not sure what all they look at though we know gpa is a big factor.
here is a list of some of our stats from a previous post....

UGH! I'm so sad about this. I feel like my sciences are really strong, and my pre-req's are too. Ten years ago when I first started college I made some bad grades and I was hoping for the opportunity to explain myself and prove that I am more than ready to take on a top notch nursing program. I'm sure many people were hoping for the same opportunity.
Oh well - I seriously don't think I can handle waiting until Nov. 15!!!!!! This is miserable!
Fortunately, alm, UT is OK with retaking classes once. More good news, classes not pertinent to the nursing program (i.e. anything other than the prerequisites) are not taken into consideration. Which is good for me b/c I took physics, trig and org chem together (whilst working 2 jobs) and bombed everything except the trig... Lesson learned
oh, dusty, i don't think the yellow barcode on the envelope you received from uth is any indication of pre-denial (or acceptance). the good news, however, is that they took the time to review your application and all that's left to do is wait and see if you're in!
@heavykevy -
i read on the utmb spring forum your interview was today @ 11:00am. let us know how it went! i hope you get in utmb and ut-h. it won't be a hard choice, tho
