UTHSC (Houston) Spring

Published

This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)

I'm applying with the following stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.21

Science GPA: 3.66

Overall GPA: 2.81

I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)

Good luck to everyone!!

hi there,

just spend hours reading over this entire thread...not sure if its helped or made me more nervous. anyways, thanks to whoever started it! i've added my numbers at the bottom...

For the people who are already in the program......

What type of financial aid package did they offer upon admissions into the program??? Amount of pell grants, etc

They offered the pell grants and subsidized and unsubsidized loans. The scholarship application you will have to fill out on the side, and from what I know some students have gotten offers or so sent to the mail over time if the scholarship is relevant to them. As for my own end I had to go through the process of getting the GI bill activated for the first time and it was one of the easiest transitions ever compared to friends that were veterans and tried to get their GI bill activated at other universities around Houston with much frustration. Just make sure to fill out your FAFSA ASAP, the earlier the better.

OK, one more. I really, really hope we all get in. After all, aren't we the crowd that really wants in?

I have a quick question for all those that are already in the UT program. Do you feel the program is organized? I keep hearing how other nursing programs are unorganized and you just have to go with the flow the entire time through the program. Is that the case with UTH? I've been told that's just the way with all nursing schools....

I haven't gotten an evaluation in the mail or online. Was I suppose to?

Specializes in Medical/Surgical Telemetry.

i emailed [email protected] and told them I had not received an evaluation and they sent me one in th email within a week.

hi everyone! I've been reading this blog for a while but am just now jumping in. Hoping to see everyone next spring :)

L8Blumer, It would be a good idea to call so you could get it soon. They missed a couple of my classes so I had to email and call to get those added on. I actually had to do that a couple of times.

I second now-or-never. Even if you get an e-mail confirmation that your courses will be added to your transcript evaluation, ask them to send you a copy of your new transcript evaluation. I just found out that 3 courses that I was assured had been added to the transcript evaluation back on June 23rd had not been added. Aargh. Worse, it puts me under the forty hours needed for consideration. I finally reached an actual person who assured me (again) that they had been added. I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm trying to look at this as an exercise in the importance of follow-up - or self-control. I'm no longer worrying about being a pest.

hi GoldenBeginnings,,, the same thing happened to me ..... for another nursing school tho .... not ut houston ..... they had one of my grades listed as a F when clearly an A was on the transcript ...lol yeah so dont worry about being a pest ... as many emails and phone calls as it takes.... its always better to b informed :)

I submitted my app last minute Aug 31 or something ridiculously close. When I got my utlink account, it read "RN-BSN". O no... In my haste to fill out the form, I didn't change the default RN-BSN selection to "BSN GENERIC". By the time I realized my error, it was September 12 and I was sure it was over for me. Not only was it way past the deadline, but it just made me look utterly incompetent :uhoh3:

I went up to the registrar's office on September 13, explained my mistake, and they deliberated. OMG I was freaked out!! I thought they'd say no and tell me to apply for the next deadline- and rightfully so..

But they reached a conclusion; No problem! They made the switch that day and sent me my new transcript eval by the early following week. Thank god they went ahead and gave me the eval too, because originally they had missed my two transcripts from HCC and Galveston College which had put me under 40 hours and made my GPA look like Sugar Honey Iced Tea. (As you can see I have a low overall GPA compared to my prereq and science gpas.. Working two jobs and trying to go to school sucked orifice )

The moral of the story is- trust the reg ladies. If you email them or go up and talk to them, they will take care of you. My experience with them has been great and when I email them (which I've done 3 or 4 times) their response usually comes in 20 mins or less.

And to everyone who has recently joined the forum, welcome! Seeing everyone's rockin grades and test scores, I really think most, if not all, of us will be in the program come spring.

I've had the same experience when emailing the registrar's office. They are super nice and respond quickly.

@encephalon, I sure hope you are right.....I really really really wanna go to UTHSC :) I think I'm about to drive my family nuts talking about it.
