UTHSC (Houston) Spring

Published

This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)

I'm applying with the following stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.21

Science GPA: 3.66

Overall GPA: 2.81

I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)

Good luck to everyone!!

Amymit, if it's been more than a week since you sent the transcript, call the registrar and ask if they received it. Tell them you were expecting to see a change in your UTLink GPA, but since nothing's changed, you're worried that either they didn't receive the transcript or it wasn't processed correctly. I've always found the people in the registrar's office to be super helpful. :)

@rocket surgery, Thanks so much! I will call them on Friday if I don't see an update by then. They have always been very nice to me on the phone!

I am late to join this thread. I am just super nervous and anxiously waiting to hear something. I have applied to UT Health and Science Center, and Prairie View A&M. I could not apply to TWU because they require that you have Chemistry complete before the app deadline, and I am currently taking that class. Chemistry is the only class I need to complete for pre reqs, but I am also taking an intro to computers class to complete my Associate of Science at Lone Star. Here are my stats: My only B is in Micro :(

Good luck to everybody, and I can't wait to start seeing post of those that received acceptance letters.

I thought I would add myself to the list. Good luck!

@Amymit, Carpool sounds wonderful!!!! If I get accepted, (and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I do,) I'm planning on taking Metro into the med center. There is a park and ride just off of Kingsland and it's non-stop, plus we can ride for half price as students and not have to worry about parking when we get there. I've heard parking is VERY expensive, not to mention the cost of gas. The bus ride is an hour and fifteen minutes that I could spend studying instead of driving, so when I get home, I could spend that extra time with my kids. Two and a half hours a day on the road is a lot of time! It may not work.....but it's a plan. However, I am open to any and all suggestions :)

here is one more....i haven't been on the thread in a while. i am an older student i.e. my kids are in college, one graduating this year with her bsn :) thanks everyone for posting all the wonderful information!!!!

I had been looking in to Metro too. I'm further out here by Katy Mills though, so I'd probably park at the Grand Parkway Park & Ride at the movie theater if anything. I was trying to look at the maps on the website, but it's really confusing.

@ KBM - I DID hear that we ride for half price or so... how much does that turn out to be? Do you know?

@heavykevy, We are in Zone 4 for Metro (the farthest out), so our fare is $2.25 each way (it's normally $4.50, but we get the 1/2 price discount). I figured we would have to be on campus an average of 17 days per month. That is less than $80 per month to ride Metro. I just filled up my car this afternoon and it was almost $95!!! The more I look into the time/money cost comparisons, the better Metro looks :)

Just wanted to add my stats to the list!

ps. I forgot to mention the 2 1/2 hours in time you will gain by being able to study on the bus instead of spent driving :) Or you could use that extra time to sleep :)
