This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)
I'm applying with the following stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.21
Science GPA: 3.66
Overall GPA: 2.81
I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)
Good luck to everyone!!

omg you guys were there today too? i was too, so glad they didn't have to lock people out of the info. session like they did the last one. Its really good to know that your gpa is something they look at and the hesi. The thing that concerns me is say you don't get in, but you apply to the fall thinking your going to get in, If letters go out in april you can't mess off the last semester by just passing with "C" because it's not destin that you will get in that semester. So I was a little bit confused when they said that because you actually won't know if you got accepted until almost the end of the semester is over. Then too if you don't get in and you just made passing grades then it's kinda a waste and you would have to repeat that whole semester over again.. did that make sense to any of you that went?
I see. I wish I could get the bump but I just started this semester. Do you know anything about transferring financial aid from other schools to UTHSC? I definitely could not afford the tuition for the spring and summer while going through a divorce. Thanks for keeping us so informed about UTHSC. You are greatly appreciated!
You're very welcome!
Unfortunately, I don't know much about financial aid. If I were you, I'd go ahread and speak to a financial aid counselor at UTHSC now, even though you haven't been admitted yet. As soon as UTLink updates and/or those admit letters go out, the FA office is going to get flooded with everyone trying to get their stuff arranged before classes start. Since it sounds like you might have a complicated situation, start as early as you can. Like I said before, there is no "fast" in financial aid. :)
Best of luck to you, and everyone on this thread!
@rocket surgery, Do you mind telling me what book you used for Pharmacology at UTHSC? I'm taking pharm now for another college's pre-req, and yes I know that I will have to take it again at UT, but I want to be as prepared as I possibly can be. Thank you :)
We are all really nervous about getting in. Your advice, wisdom, words of encourgement and thoughts are most appreciated by all :)
Currently we're using Lehne's Pharmacology for Nursing Care, 7th Edition.
However, I'd say at least half of the students didn't buy the book and are doing okay without it. The professor has very detailed slide presentations and writes his tests off the slides. If it's not on a slide, it won't be on the test.
If you're good at memorizing material, you probably won't need the book. However, although his slides are very detailed, they can also be confusing, just because of the amount of new material. I bought the book because knowing the background helps me understand new things better.
Also, since Pharm material is basically the same regardless of the textbook, and since he tests off his slides, you will probably do just as well using your current Pharm book and won't need to buy the "required" version. :)
@Rocket Surgery. Does the financial aid office send a packet out to admitted applicants? I've already listed UTHSC on my FAFSA 2011-2012 school year and submitted the FAFSA quite awhile back. I'm wondering if the Financial Aid office send out some sort of pre-scholarship or pre-loan package if students are interested.
Our Patho book is McCance's Pathophysiology: The Biologic Basis for Disease in Adults and Children. You will definitely have to buy that book, and it weighs a ton as well.
Chunky, I don't know. I didn't even fill out a FASFA until after I was accepted to UTHSC so I have no idea if they send out anything before you've been admitted. It would be best to call them with your specific questions. This is the link for scholarships, but it says it's for current and newly admitted students only: http://son.uth.tmc.edu/acaddept/studentaffairs/scholarships/default.htm
But you could certainly get everything filled out now, so you can send it in as soon as you find out you're admitted.
I am a Spring 2012 applicant and I am feeling super frustrated!! I am an older applicant and I am nervous about the overall GPA thing though! I didn't have my Chem grade in updated by the 1st, but I earned an A which would have bumped up my science GPA. I am hoping they look at my HESI scores as well as my CT score. Good Luck to everyone, looks like some great applicants and *hopefully* lots of great classmates!!!
