Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:
Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75
Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0
Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.
My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -
Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30
Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! )
Overall Gpa: 3.28
Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.
My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.
Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!
For clarity, Holds must be completed before you can register and pay for your classes. Your To Do list must be completed before classes start. Some things may show up on both(like verifying your insurance, immunizations), but for right now only concern yourself with your holds so you may register as soon as possible.
Hey everyone!! Sorry I have been MIA for a bit. Things have been crazy this summer Congratulations to those who have been accepted off of the wait list!! :yelclap: That is awesome news and I look forward to getting to know each of you over the next year and half.
For those of you still not on the FB account, I HIGHLY encourage you to join. The group will be used for more than just current information to start the program. Over the coming time there will be study guides, etc posted and shared, Questions asked and answered, etc. I am a member of the Spring 2013 graduating classes group and I see the amount of activity they have there. It is SUBSTANTIAL!!!
All Holds need to be removed to register... EXCEPT for your Identity Management hold. That one will not prevent you from being able to select and enroll into your classes. Anything on your To-Do list will not prevent you from enrolling in classes, just your holds. Today was the first day of registration and I have already registered. The process is super easy. FYI - book lists are still not available, but should be ready for us before the end of the month.
If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to PM me :) I will help any way that I can, but I cannot say it enough that the FB page is REALLY helpful. It is a great support system for all of us.
So, just came across this and am so excited!! I was accepted on June 15 and was beyond ecstatic!!! I found the Facebook group for Uthsc son class of December 2013 and asked to join!!! I am amazed at what technology can do, we'll be able to "virtually meet" before orientation... Hope to see you all aug 27!!!
This is my first post. I owe this forum as I had been reading some good posts. My profile is as follows:
Science GPA: 4.0
Overall GPA: 3.9
Bachelors : 3.5
HESI overall :82%, CT : 900
I wsa a DR in my country for 17years and have US clinical experience of 4 years as a MA. I applied for Summer 2012 and Fall 2012. I was denied for both in April 2012. I email to UT asking "what more you want". Should I repeat my HESI, my maths was 70% only. They replied we will review your application. The same reply in May and till June 6th. I started applying to UH victoria, Tx A & M. They both assured me that I have a very high chance. Yesterday to my surprise I got a phone call from Ut asking me if I was admitted to some other college. If not they have an offer for me. They accepted my application for fall 2012. I was shocked, not at all happy. I could not forget the pain I took for 3 months; praying literally every 5 seconds, checking email million times and above all the feeling that hard work does not pay. Meanwhile I had met the UH councillar 4 times, email her 7 times and we had built a very good relationship.
Finally my husband made a decision, UT has a 35 year old program verses 3 years at UH. The LESSON learnt is that hard work does pay, prayers are heard, its just your luck when the good news comes.
My advice is, keep on trying and one day you will succeed.
Hi Seemar,
Like you, this is my first time on the forum. I have followed it since i placed my application for the fall 2012 semester. I also did get a call 2 days ago letting me know that I have been accepted in the fall 2012 program. I am so glad and can only agree that prayers do work, and hard work does. I look forward to working with you all during the semester. Congrats!!!!
@stacymonique, what material would you recommed studying for the HESI? I am applying to UTHSCH and was wondering if you could offer some advice. Im not sure if I should apply quite yet because I still have a couple classes to take. Anyways, here's my current stats:
prereq's: 3.7
science gpa: 3.75
classes left: gov't 2305, gov't 2306, history 2, engl 2, medical micro.
Im getting antsy!! I already started an application to get my name in the system and this fall I am planning on taking gov't 2305, history 2, engl 2 and medical micro. Then in a minimester I will do gov't 2306 and hopefully done with all prereq classes in December. Thoughts?? I'm not sure if I should start studying for the HESI. Agh, its so frustrating and confusing.
Hey guys! I wanted to Congratulate those who just got acceptted! I applied for the Fall 2012 BSN and got denied but received a call about 2 weeks ago saying that I was at the top of their waiting list and if I was still interested! I explained to them that I have since moved to DFW area, my husband transferred jobs, and I'm applying to TWU in Dallas for Spring start. It made me happy though and made me realize that you never can give up hope! Good luck to everybody!

Did you get a rejection letter when you applied or did you get waitlisted?

Ah, speak of the devil. Got my packet from them today.
You shouldn't have a Nursing Orientation hold. This should be a part of your to do list. Go to your holds on myUTH and see what is listed. The only ones I have left are my Immunization hold(info already sent, just waiting for them to take off the hold) and my Identity Management hold(which I am taking care of tomorrow).
Regular registration begins on July 16th, and goes to August 24th. Late registration is August 25-31. You must have all of your holds completed and taken down by that time! You will receive instruction on how to register for courses when you begin registration through myUTH.
