UTHSC-Houston Fall 2012 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:

Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75

Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0

Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.

My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -

Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30

Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! :crying2: )

Overall Gpa: 3.28

Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.

My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.

Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!

Thanks@ hemphia. I really enjoyed your questions at the information session. R u admitted this fall 2012.

Hi @ Tienalger,

Since we both are accepted at UTHSC Fall 2012, lets be in touch. My email is [email protected]. Hope to hear soon.

has anyone taken the hesi a2-v2? (which is what you take if you take the hesi a 2nd time)

i know they aren’t going to give us the same test twice of course, i just wanted to know if anyone felt the the version 2 was any different?

i am scheduled to take mine august 10th, which is not this friday but the next.

thank you.

Yes. It is not drastically different, maybe a little more difficult, but you aren't going to get the same questions for sure. I felt like the first HESI was a warm up and helped me prepare for the second one. They are done in the same style, so study like you did for the first one and tailor it according to what you saw on the first HESI. Study guide helped me a lot! I made much better marks on the second than I did on the first.

Thank you! I have the HESI admission assessment book and ive been studying that. I also have a critical thinking book to reivew as well. I had an 87% overall last time, def hoping to get at least a 92% or better this time!

Do you guys have any tips on studying for the vocabulary portion? That was my weakest section.

Does ANYONE know what kind of diversity there is in the acceptance process? As in those of you who are students now and have discussed stats with one another, do you know what the lowest scores you have heard of getting in?

I just wanted to see if there could be any tension released on us Spring 2013 applicants. A lot of us applying are wondering what the lowest CT score accepted has been. I got an 830 my first time, and I am about to take the HESI A2-V2.

Any information is helpful, we are all driving ourselves crazy lol

Why are you taking it again?

Because the first time I took it I didn't study at all. Just went in there and took it....I want to re-take it because seeing some of these applicants scores scare me and maybe studying the material will get me higher averages. I scored high B's and 1 A in math.

Math 90%

Reading 89.13% (BUT, if you look into the break down there are 4 components I got a 77 and 75 on implications and conclusions) I feel like they will look at that too. I got a 100 on meaning and word use and 95 on understanding. The average was 89.13%.

Vocab 82%

Grammar 86%

A&P 88%

CT 830

Pre req 3.68

Overall 3.57

I am freaking out about taking it again because what if I do worse, but I am studying this time just hopefully its a enough to do better. A lot of people get 90 or above on all sections. I didn't apply anywhere else (dont want to) so I am doing anything to better my chance at earning a spot....

I see. I got all A's on each of the hesi sections but a 770 in critical thinking.

Reading comprehension 90

Anatomy and physiology 92

Math 96

Vocabulary 90

Grammar 90

Prereq 3.71

Science 3.25

Hope I get it. Good luck to you!

I was thinking about taking it again but don't want to mess my grades especially in critical thinking cause I really don't know how to study for it

@nici0513 did you have all 4 sciences finished when you applied? or how many did you have and what were they? i know a girl hemphia got accepted and she had all 4 sciences finished with all a's and 4 classes left to take when she was accepted. i wonder if they start with those who have all sciences finished because all a's in that is basically saying you'll do good in the program since its all science. (hope this makes sense) im of course freaking out about everything lol
