Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:
Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75
Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0
Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.
My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -
Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30
Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! )
Overall Gpa: 3.28
Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.
My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.
Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!
Thanks! My GPA was a 3.58, I think, my science GPA is a 4.0, and my HESI was 94% with a 890 CT. I take my TEAS V tomorrow for TWU! Good luck & don't get discouraged! Every semester the application pool is different and as in my example, those who get accepted on the 1st go around doesn't mean they will accept the offer or they might have other obstacles that will put those on the wait list or even denied up next!
I took my last 17 hr all together this last Spring! Insane..I know, but I thought that I would be starting this Fall and wanted the summer to relax with my kids and family. I worked hard though and still made all A's, so my GPA is higher now then when I applied. I was going to apply for UTA but their program requirements are different and I was going to have to take another Chemistry this summer (they don't accept Intro to Chem. like UTHSC) and a technical writing class. I looked into TWU and have everything complete for them and they have an awesome Masters program for a NP. I believe everything happens for a reason and I really feel good about TWU so it was no hard feelings. I'm registered to take Patho at TWU this Fall since I'm done with everything else, so it will be a light load and hopefully I'll be ready to start in the Spring!
That is still great! I know that competively speaking most students are in a range of 3.5 and above... Did you study for the HESI test? Any tips? Especially towards the critical thinking? Thank you for your help! :)
Get the study guide for the HESI! It is extremely helpful and doesn't take a lot of time to study for. The book includes a Chemistry, Physics, and Biology section but ignore those because for UTHSC you only take the Reading, Math, English & Vocab., and A&P sections. As far as the CT portion, just take your time with the scenerio given, and remember the A, B, C's of nursing: Airway, Breathing, and Circulation in that order! Good Luck!

I received a rejection letter. The nursing admissions office called me several times just about 2 weeks ago. I was curious to what they wanted so I called them back and she asked me if I was still interested because they were starting a new waiting list for Fall and I would be at the top of the list. I was thinking they must have already went through the wait list and started calling people who got rejected. I was shocked and didn't expect that at all but my family has relocated now, so the news was a little too late. Hope I get into TWU now!
