Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:
Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75
Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0
Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.
My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -
Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30
Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! )
Overall Gpa: 3.28
Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.
My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.
Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!
Ok, I am totally in the dark in terms of getting immunization records. The certification form has to be filled out by a healthcare provider, but I got my immunizations from half a dozen different places and I don't have current health care provider. I can get ahold of the information, but am I just supposed to make an appointment with a random doctor and show them this information and have them fill out the form?
Congrats @stacymonique! And welcome! Come to the facebook page - everyone on there is so incredibly helpful with lots and lots of stuff.
As far as your immunizations, you need to send copies of whatever is required from the immunization form. If you don't have the copies, you can go to any health care provider and ask them to run a titer for whatever immunes. you don't have records for. Just double check with your insurance company about those costs, coz that can vary. Have your physical done at the same time too! That's a separate form! Congratulations again! And to all of those who've heard so far!!!!
thanks for the info
nyctransplant. i know i am missing out on communicating with all my new classmates on facebook, but i don't have and don't ever intend to have a facebook account. i look forward to meeting everyone in person though!
I am new at this, just registered today...
@ Hemphia- congrats on your acceptance to UTHSC! I will begin the application process in a couple of months for the 2013 accelerated program.
I am really nervous because I know that nursing school is very competitive. Do nursing schools take community service and work experience into consideration when selecting applicants?
Hello everyone!
I am new to the sight, and will be applying to UTHSC for the 2013 accelerated program.
@GirlontheRUN- Congrats on your acceptance!! I am super nervous about the application process since nursing school is so competitive. Do you have any advice that can help me through the application process? Good luck in nursing school! Hopefully I will be following in your tracks next year! :-)
@aggie0728, to your question in regards to community service and work experience. It all depends on what program you are applying to. If you are applying to UTHSC, then no they do not look at community service but in the application itself you are asked to list your work experience. Not sure how much they look at work experience though... If you were applying to the program at A&M they require all of the above! Hope this helps!
Hey everyone, I am sure if I was on Facebook I would already have all the answers to my questions, but alas. If anyone who was accepted for Fall 2012 is still keeping up with this forum, do yall know what the timeline is for registering for classes? Registration for BSN starts on 7/16, but orientation isn't until 8/15 and I thought I read somewhere that you had to go through orientation before you could register for classes. Of course that doesn't seem right or else why would registration start a month before? I am finishing my last pre-req class now so I won't be able to do anything until I get my last transcript in early August so I won't be able to register any time soon anyway, but I was just curious. How do we even know what classes we are supposed to register for? I thought they might go over that in the registration. I am freaking out a little since it there are still so many steps before I can feel 100% certain that nothing will go wrong and prevent me from enrolling...I have to tell my boss that I am quitting and that is terrifying when there is any possibility that something will happen and all my to-dos won't get processed in time.
This is what it says on my nursing orientation hold: Mandatory attendance at an Orientation Session is required before you will be allowed to Enroll in classes. Contact the School of Nursing Student Affairs

I just got a call from Joanne saying that a spot on the wait list had opened up and I would be accepted! Really odd since I wasn't on the wait list as far as I knew. I got a straight-up denial letter. Crazy!
